Review: LittleBigPlanet 2

All the happy adjectives you know apply to LittleBigPlanet 2.

Thank you my good Madam for confirming my suspicions about this game. This is one game that's not worth passing up this year. Now for Marvel vs Capcom 3, Killzone 3 and Metal Gear Rising.

Wow this year is turning out pretty good for games.

Do you feel like the first one was a bit more light-hearted? That's the one big difference I felt between the two - LBP is a lot more adorable than LBP 2.
Of course. The Collector would sneak around grabbing a thing or two here or there, and it wasn't until later in the game that he really made himself known anyway. Compare to LBP2 where the Negavititron shows up in the very first "this is how you run, this is how you jump, this is how you put on costumes" level which isn't even a real level and almost eats you. From there you get a cutscene telling you how it's endangering the entire world. I'm not big on telling people their opinions are wrong, but if someone did say they found LBP2 to be more light-hearted, I would certainly press them to explain that a bit because it would make no sense to me without context.

Well, I feel that we should be.

Also, didn't the LBP-Classic intro have live action people in it as well?

I seem to remember an girl sleeping in a tree, and a 'fro wielding gent sleeping on a desk.
I'm quite sure I remember a girl sleeping on a bus as the first thing that comes up, but from there I usually skip it.

The Tower of Woop, Susan?
Indeed, The Tower of Whoop. That's what it's called.
Isn't that the one that has the Ladytron song in the background? I love that one.

On a side note, the one thing I am disappointed in is that the only way to play online is through their lottery and haven't found a way to invite friends into your pod. That and, it is Playstation so no one has a mic, so coordinating the two man sections gets a little tricky at times.

Oh, dangit, one thing I forgot to mention - you can port your profile from LBP into LBP2, so everything you unlocked - all your stickers, objects, music clips, etc. - is available for your creations.
This was a pleasant surprise when I started the game. I hadn't played LBP for so long that I forgot all the fun things I got in the first game.

I really like the second game, but I agree about the controls. But, as you say, the game is so fun and creative that I just want to keep going. The story is short, but I was kinda impressed that there actually was a plot since I don't actually remember if the first game had one. I loved taking on the Negativitron by riding on bees in the night sky while firing honey at evil space minions. I also didn't mind the short plot since the replay value is so high with everyone else's levels, I don't play online very much but my god, LBP2 is a blast with other people.

That was an ideal outro song, I'm gonna add nothing else about the review or the game, just this almost irrelevant opinion.

So... no one is mentioning all the other minigames and other game types you can do in this game? I mean, the platforming is still a major component, but mixed up with that are the arcade-style shooters, racing games, other stuff like that... I mean, that's an entirely different facet of the game right there, and that's where LBP2 really shines, in my opinion.

Well, I mentioned it in the review, or did you mean the other commenters weren't mentioning it?

I loved LBP1 and was sold within 40seconds of that video because Sackboy is wearing a FEZ!

Oh sweet! I thought you couldn't do that! :) Now I have one more reason to buy it. I'll probably wait though, LBP 1 can still keep me occupied.
This might be a dumb question, but can you import your created levels from LBP, or do you have to make new ones?

I am still not convinced by Little Big Planet. The first one came with my PS3 and I got rid of it after about 10 minutes. I feel like I've missed something though because when I see other people playing it it looks really fun!

After 10 minutes? :/ How much of it did you play exactly?

Well I didn't have a stop watch handy but I got to a part where I was jumping over a log with what I think was a king in the background... I tried a couple more times after that (it was Christmas after all so no shops were open for me to trade it in).

I have just got the original over the past winter holiday season and haven't gotten a chance to play it, so I'm gonna beat that first and wait for the price to go down. I will get it eventually though.
I'm gonna do the same. I'm surprised they haven't fixed that platform issue seeing as how it was in the first one as well.

I didn't notice the platforming issues this time around, that's just me personally.

I find the game very fun, especially with the creation aspect. Much easier to do complex things in this one.

The platforming controls are still lofty, eh?
Pass. It's a 100% deal-breaker as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately, Sackboy's jumps are still super floaty and although being able to move in towards the background allows for some clever level designs, you'll frequently miss your mark because the game's 2d nature makes it difficult to tell that you're too far forward or back. It's not a fun-breaker, but it is a frustration that never quite goes away as you play.
For me, that is a fun-breaker. A huge fun-breaker.
I have to agree. It's sort of like being tasked with making the best chocolate chip cookies ever and then being given a huge kitchen filled with everything you need.. except chocolate.
