I hate to burst your bubble, but Blazblue really isn't all that complicated.

After you move past the simple controls for MvC3, you're going to find that it is leagues above Blazblue.

But I still love Blazblue. I've got both versions, and the $120 Fight stick. I didn't bother with the tutorials. I can't keep up with them, but I can do them when I'm not being told to. Its odd. Just keep at it and you'll get it. Its probably my favorite fighting game.
Oh, probably not BlazBlue's fault I find it hard. My motor skills aren't inherently good for fighting games - even less my reaction time. It's less the complexity of the combos and more the fucking fast pace of the thing.

I've been trying to get into BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, but I even fail in the TUTORIALS. The tutorials! God! This being the case - it might be nice to get into a "noob-friendly" fighting game to stretch my thumbs out first, THEN jump into the complexity inherent in BlazBlue - and I do want to play BlazBlue because it does suck me in. It's just... hard.

So maybe MvC3 is a good place for nubs who've only ever played DoA2 to start playing fighting games?

actually i would like to help keep his bubble in tact, Blaz Blue while being totally awesome is also totally obscure and buried in old 2d tropes that haven't been applied in years to anyone who stopped playing any of the more tech heavy 2D fighters of old..to surmise it's hard as F**K!

Ah. Gotcha. Then MvC3 may be a bit better then. Its a bit slower paced than MvC2 was.

Different strokes I guess. I prefer Blazblue (to pretty much any fighting game) because I was inherently better at it than any other fighting game, as were my friends. Its always felt much easier than any other fighter (unless I'm playing Rachel. For some reason I can't play that little vampire *****).

Rachel kind of sucks in Continuum Shift. Everything that made her good in Calamity Trigger was nerfed to a point where she's practically useless.

Oh, and they introduced a bunch of infinites that only work on her.

I was kinda looking forward to this game and after hearing the reviews and details I'm afraid that I am going to have to skip this one.

Can't wait! Goddamn European release dates... I'm really hoping my Deadpool/Wesker/Dormammu team will work well. From what I've seen though, seems like good old Wade will have to do with some different partners.

So... This game doesn't have the story mode?

DAMN IT!

Say what you like, but I loved the story mode in fighters like in Tekken 5 & 6, Soul Calibur III (it sucked in IV) Guilty Gear or BlazBlue.

Anyway, it seems like a lot of fun, so I'll probably buy it when I'll have the money.

I'm glad you showed footage of Okami~....
I would have had to hurt some monsters if you didn't. *Twich*

In all seriousness: Want. Simple as that.

It has the same sort of story mode that most home console versions of fighting games had back the 16 bit days. You play through random fights, get maybe one that actually has anything to do with your character(s), beat the boss, get a cutscene* that may or may not really have anything to do with the game at large.

*in this case static images are used instead of, you know, actual cutscenes.

I agree that it would have been nice if it had more. Goodness knows the ingredients were there for at least a more compelling fight to fight experience even if they didn't go wild with the game mechanics as in the other games you listed.

I don't know. The fact that Blazblue has a story doesn't by any stretch mean that it's a story worth following. Basically if I wanted some weird Japanese story telling, I'd go straight for visual novels... at least they payoff.

Continuum Shift did fix a lot of the issues with Calamity Trigger (like SSF4 did with the vanilla SF4) though and it's a really good technical fighter that has exemplary practice modes and tutorials. It's just that I don't really see why you'd want a crappily done story to pad out your game. Haven't games like Portal shown that you can have a great game with no padding at all?

The lacking spectator mode is a big WTF though.
Ugh, I am NOT really asking for a plot here, they could've even done something like Soul Calibur's quest modes (minus IV's of course) and that would've been just as acceptable. Now that I think of it, the FIRST Soul Calibur did a Quest mode a year BEFORE MvC2 was released. Now THAT'S archaic bordering on unacceptable. Like I said, I'm sure the game is mechanically sound, this is CAPCOM after all, but a lack of proper content is NOT a point in the game's favor. Heck, even Blazblue's online options far outweigh MvC3's as well

I'm currently having tons of fun with MvC3. While I'm a bit disheartened at a lack of a variety of online modes and a forgettable arcade mode, I know I'll be improving myself with different characters for a while; online mode kicks my arse.

This just convinced me to get the game more.

I don't really care for online play so that won't be an issue.

Wait... Ryu = Ken... what?? I can understand the sentiment of NOT wanting player redundacy, but to insinuate that the shotos "play" (flat statement) identically just shows that the reviewer isn't a fighting game fan, at all. A more accurate, and fitting, analogy would have been mentioning the Kobun ("Servbot"), Roll, and Adamantium/Bone Claws Wolverine gaffs from MvC2.

And to be fair/accurate, Ryu & Ken haven't been pixel-pallet swaps since the pre-SSF2 days. They may look similar, but they move(d) differently, take different levels of damage from received attacks, and have different ranges and effects to their special and super moves. Heck, there have been tweaked subtleties in their regular movesets since SF2, & that was released practically 20 years ago!

I rented the game, and so far I'm loving it. I loved MvC2 and I'm not a huge fan of fighting games, but this game is pretty awesome.

Edit: I find it rather annoying that some characters have to be unlocked though.
It is only 4 characters and I unlocked them by playing a few games of offline versus with friends. You get all 4 at once.

OT: This game is awesome so far, never much of a fighting game fan, but I decided I needed to be more eclectic in my game choices. Also I really liked MvC2.

I actually liked BB's story. *Sniff*

This might be a good chance to ask you by the way, I heard we'll be getting the continuum shift II arcade changes in a patch. Is this true? Because if so should I even bother practicing to get back into BB after my holiday vacation playing gift games? I've seen some footage and it looks like an entirely different game with all the balance adjustments. (My poor, poor Bang. Back to his CT low tier status again :( (RIP 623B wallbounce, RIP)

I was wondering this and no offense to the 360, but why are lots of fighters reviewed on 360 and yet the ps3 has the better controller for fighting games?
It goes both ways. 360 has the better joystick while the PS3 has a more responsive D-Pad. I greatly prefer playing fighters on the 360 to the PS3 because I'm a joystick user.
