Haha, complaining about the plot in this game is like complaining about plot in Forza or Mario Kart.

I mean...seriously?
When the game makes you do it to get to the meat of the game (i.e. to unlock all the customization options), it's irritating. And the announcers are still painfully stupid in ANY gameplay mode.
Huh? Gran Turismo makes you play the career modes (its story mode) to get to the "meat" of the game too. I think it's the same way with almost every single racing game in history.
But Gran turismo's career mode wasn't annoying, which means that you don't mind to work through it to get to the "meat". I think that's the point John is making.

Besides, in Gran Turismo there is a bigger emphasis on gameplay, while in this game it's customization*. I'd compare it to SSBB where you have to play for freaking HOURS, in a tedious story-mode, to get to the cool characters.

*bare in mind that everything said up till this point is based on 2nd hand knowledge (sorry).

I'm actually veeeeery tempted to buy this, because I love simple little level editors. The inaccessibility was what killed LittleBigPlanet's level creator for me, so maybe I'll rent this and see how it compares.

Of course, I guess it depends on how good Blur and Split/Second are too, because there's no way I'm buying more than one racing game this summer (unless they're all really, really good).

No, the GT career mode doesn't even HAVE a story, which means that, by default, ModNation Racer's "story mode" is better. But the point is, that's a stupid and idiotic thing to criticize a racer for.

I think MNR emphasized on customization is because that's what they hyped about because that's how they separate themselves from everything else. The GAME is just as much about the racing as it is about customization. So, since this is a review on the game rather than the advertisements, I'd disagree with your statement that this game has any less emphasis on gameplay compared to GT. Players could play as much and as many racing game mechanics as GT (albeit in arcade kart racing mechanic), so the emphasis is the same, it's just that MNR adds a customization on top of that.

that boost/shield meter is actually original to the Extreme G series, it worked pretty well in that, so i'll look foward to trying it out in this game.
Okay.
That's cool to know.

Also, people are weighing too heavily on Loading as a downside, I mean, it's one thing, it'll be resolved later; and it's not THAT bad.

Some of the complaints in this review are just idiotic, or short-sighted at best.

What are Track points? - Points you get for staying on the main Track, it's extremely obvious if you pay attention while racing.

You don't like the driving UI? - PRESS START. You can use that menu instead.

Load times, while they are pretty bad right now, are going to be patched.

The Story mode is EXTRA. It's not detrimental to the game in any way (plus you can skip all cutscenes), and I actually found the announcers entertaining. It helps to have a sense of humor, though.

The only legitimate complaint here it the fact that you have to play through the story mode to unlock creation materials.

You didn't even pick up on any real issues, such as the flawed "Top Mods" system, the Region Lock, no ability to update published creations, ridiculous trophies, impossible challenges, and creation limits that are set just a little to low for people to create anything truly amazing.

And Char wouldn't be that hard to make. Search for him, I guarantee he's been made quite a few times already.

Review: ModNation Racers

It's LittleBig Racers, though with a bit more ease of use and a bit less charm.

Other than Little Big Planet there are three more words that are appropriate for this game: Big Red Racing [http://www.google.be/images?hl=nl&q=big%20red%20racing&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi].
Hells yeah.... xD I love that! xD Brings back some fond memories... :)
