I hate risk. Too fucking complicated, and this is coming from someone who loves science and mathematics.

Question: is there a way to enable the (Italian only?) defending 3-die rule? It would bother me too much to play differently. Anyway love Risk, but I still play it time to time with my friends, so I don't particularly feel the need for a videogame version of it.
Now, if they were to make a PC version of A Game of Thrones... Or Twilight Imperium! *drools*

The only thing you had to complain about was the lack of story ending, why did you give it only 4 stars?
Good question. We were actually just talking about this in the office. As a game, it does everything right. The campaign is funny and creative, the gameplay is interesting and the presentation is all solid. I gave it four stars because it is an above average game that I would recommend to most gamers. Our criteria for a 5-star game is that they are games that you should definitely own if you own the platform on which it appears. The kind of game that you are just dumb if you don't own or at least consider picking up: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/7149-What-Our-Review-Scores-Mean

Risk: Factions is a small game that you can finish in an hour or two. There is replayability in the multiplayer and custom games against the AI, but I couldn't justify giving it 5 stars for that reason alone. It's cute, it's fun, but players will likely tire of it after a few hours. I could see playing a few matches a week, but much more than that will leave most players bored, unless they are huge strategy fans.

It's totally worth 10 bucks, but I don't think it's worth 5 stars.
Ok, that makes sense. Nothing wrong with it, but it just lacks the kind of longevity that something like Plants vs. Zombie has.

Loved the Seinfeld reference at the end, Tito. I was waiting for it the whole video.

Yeah this was my thought. I suggest our friend never google Axis and Allies, Arkham Horror, Napoleon in Europe or just about every other boardgames not manufactured by Hasbro.

Even though to be fair, an added layer of (social) complexity lies in Risk in trying to convince the other players that it's really better for them to attack that other guy, because yeah you may win against me here, but I have 16 points of recruitment in cards (I swear), so then I will have to attack you, and he will win because we weaken each other, but if you attack him, maybe when you finish him you get his cards, and then...
That maybe why I was usually entitled "wormtongue".

I really want this game now. Wish I had an xBox 360. Wish even more that this was a PC game...

You're right, that is a big aspect of playing Risk face-to-face. I kind of hope for that when playing Risk: Factions, that the AI will fight each other leaving me free to steamroll over all of them.

This game definitely reminded me of PvZ when I played it, in the sense that it was something unique and fun to waste time with every now and again.

Also I'm obligated to give it a shining endorsement due to my uncle doing a large portion of the VA work.

"The Ukraine is weak, it's feeble."
Why Yoooooou! *shakes fist in anger*
*pauses*
You know what's the worst thing about that statement? Its factual nature.

How am I supposed to decide between an army of Cats or an army of Zombies!?!?! Oh game industry, you've done it again!!
Doesn't matter which you pick. The toasters will win. They always do.

Heh,
"peace is our enemy"
"peace is a table set by our enemy"
=> "peace is a table set by (peace)"
=> "peace is a table set by (a table set by ( a table set by....))...)

Interesting feedback loop, or maybe I just overthought this a little.

Bought it right away, seems like so much fun.
Not to mention, a local multi-player option!

I agree completly with this review, i'd like to add though that if you're playing over multiplayer there's already some infuriating tactics and habits developing two of which are most prominant.

If you're playing the "command room" the objective based mode there's normally an objective to take over an enemy HQ, since you win by gathering three objectives whoevers first will irritatingly sotckpile all their resources into one space for an early lead, not cheating but tiresome when it happens most matches.

The other one is rage-quitters, this game's already been hit by them hard. If it even looks like they're not winning or right at the last move they'll quit. Because they disconnected the game doesnt count as a win or loss for the but counts it as a loss for you, there's lists in most gaming forums though compiling names of quitters and non-quitters for better gaming.

Apart from those two gripes i think this game is fantastic, i'd actually never played Risk before but had played a rather hollowed out flash version called Dice Wars.

I bought the game the second I noticed it on XBLA. I love me some Risk. However I thought the campaign was a little too short for my taste and I wish we could have gotten some animated battles for Classic Risk. I liked the PC version of Risk 2 for this. You have colonial infantry men and increase your troops would show Cannons and Horses on the battle field... Good times.

That aside though, I still enjoyed this game, I just didn't think it was worth 800ms for such a short campaign.

See, I disagree. When the robots eventually rise and rebel, I believe ATMs will lead the charge...

Toasters win. Reason?
