I have bought every Sonic game released on the XBLA... and I will continue to do so.

I love Sonic, and replaying his glory days reminds me why I love him.

It's not without the expected 3D problems of camera angle and moving a bit too fast... but it's easily one of the best 3D Sonics made.

I hope to see Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic CD ported soon!

And maybe some Sonic R for good measure.

I'm happy they released it on xbox live. I kinda hate the review ecause he only focuses on the negative aspects of the game and the story doesn't fall apart it's pretty clear that chaos is going to flood the world and bring it to ruin. The down sides to the game is finding the power ups for the characters and 2 characters that never should have really been in the game to begin with: BIG and AMY. You can almost let AMY's part slide, despite her having the crappiest cut scenes, but BIG the Retarded cat's Stages are probably going to be the most annoying tedious level you have ever played. Knuckles stages are fun but finding the shards of the chaos emerald will get dull quickly. If the game has online multiplayer support then I would have to recommend it as a temporary break from Halo Reach. It's a cheap buy but honestly you might want to wait for Sonic adventure 2 or Sonic adventure dx on xbla.

Actually, this is a port of the PC version...which is just an odd thing to do considering these are supposed to be Dreamcast games and that Sonic Adventure DX is supposedly glitchier then the DC version, and I've heard some people say that this port adds even more glitches on top of that. I wouldn't really know since I still have a working Dreamcast and see no reason to play any version of DX.

That, and having just played the game a few weeks ago, I personally think the DC version of the game has held up perfectly fine, barring a few camera issues. And since this version is making people say otherwise, I will most definitely be avoiding this. (Again, not that I see reason to buy a game I already own anyways)

As much affection as I have for the original and the Dreamcast in general (I actually got a little teary playing the NiGHTS pinball table in the Casino), it really is kind of painful by modern standards. There's certainly fun to be had, but it shows its age pretty badly.

I had DX directors cut on Gamecube, that game was epic! Granted I spent more time with my Chaus, but it was still a realy good game.

I still have the original disk for my Dreamcast. And my Dreamcast as a matter of fact. Sadly the disk itself has seen better days, and sadly no longer works.

I still love this game though. And while it is mostly Nostalgia saying that, its also the fact that there are moments in this game that are just jaw-dropping. Even today. Running down that building in the city level is still one of the best moments I've ever had while playing a game.

I remember as a kid thats all I would play. Its just so damn fun, and I was so amazed at flying through that one little area.

I already own this and the sequel for the Gamecube. What sucks about the XBLA and PSN version is both the Dreamcast port and GCN/PC port are seperate and you have to pay $15 dollar to have Sonic Adventure DX.

Russ. Hate to say this but this is the worst review I have seen on the Escapist...EVER.

Here is why.

1.) You did not put any emotion into the voiceover at all...making it feel like you were doing this review at gunpoint or something.

2.) You do not KILL anything in any sonic game. You let animals out of robots. A seasoned Sonic gamer would know this.

Sorry but this review could have been better done. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were the best 3D games done in the Sonic series.

Sonic Adventure was fun but is quiet painfully bad by todays standards. It falls into that unfortunate group of early 3D which is between @D games that never really age and 3D that isn't good but looks passable. The controls are also a little wonky and not as natural as future games would be. Still, It's a pretty awesome game even if its only good as a museum piece now. I can't feel that you were bored out of your head from the utter lack of inflection in your voice or even a single good joke. Perhaps the editor in chief though this would be better then it was?

I got sonic adventure battle 2 when the gamecube came out, and it was good (i recognized like half of the levels) and it was good, but i don't really see a reason to go back.

What's the sonic game where on the first mission your using a bit of a plane as a sort of, surf board?

That was my favourite sonic game, i think it was the first to have Shadow the Hedgehog in it...

I think the controls in particular really haven't aged well.
I replayed it on the Dreamcast somewhat recently and part of it was downright infuriating.

As for the story...
Well, actually, it sucks. I'm not joking, it's awful.
But somehow I still liked it, even though it was so god damn cheesy.
Call it nostalgia, but I think it's one of those "so bad it's good again" things. In a certain way it's still entertaining, same for the hilarious music by Crush 40.

Though I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has never played it, by today's standarts it might actually be as bad as the current titles. Ok, maybe not that bad.

Sonic DX is indeed available, as has been mentioned in passing, but it takes an extra $5 to "upgrade" to it from the DC version. Any word on whether it's as glitchy here on XLBA (and PSN, I suppose) as on the GC?

Say what you will about Big the Cat and Amy, but this is the last game where Sonic got to go very, very fast, and get properly rewarded for it. Figuring out how to cut the corners you needed to cut in order to get those A-rank medals in Sonic's stages was one of the most fun things about this game, and it remains so. I won't be getting all the medallions this time, but this game encouraged you to go fast in ways that very, very few instances of the other games ever managed. Somehow. Even though Sonic's big thing is that he goes fast.

Go figure.
