I personally enjoy Zero Punctuation myself not only because of the humor, delightful visuals, but because he highlights the mistakes and sometimes retarded choices, developers choose to do. Honestly for me the videos aren't just overviews of games where he sticks it to big named developers with sharp wit and a snappy pace (and a sweet hat), but actual intelligent critiques that use humor to highlight where things can be improved upon, perhaps not for the current development teams, but for those of us who seek to break into this line of work.
Why? Because someone has to tell us not to put our heads up our asses when we make games and instead focus on doing what games have forgotten how to do a couple decades ago: be FUN.
But despite this view a person still has to consider something else when subjecting themselves to another person's opinion: it's just an opinion. You don't have to hang on every word like it was handed down to you by the Almighty. If you don't like it fine. If you do, alright then. Regardless you should use reviews to expand your understanding of a game and perhaps expose yourself to games you don't know about, but not treat them as the be all, and end all of what a game is, or should be. That's something that only you can decide for yourself. Unless your an idiot who wears his pants on his head while declaring himself the Overlord of Pantsdom. Then feel free to do just that. For the rest of you though, just keep in mind that when it all comes down to it, everything is a matter of taste and the best way to find out if something suits your palette is to dig right in and try a serving. You never know, it may just be something you enjoy.
And I feel that I'm running far to long in making my point. Yes, Zero Punctuation is humor based, and often can get a bit much for some but like any good humor it has a basis in truth, or at least in the personal truths of the person who wrote the joke. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that in the end, love it, hate it, or obsess over it like some kind of whiny stalker, Zero Punctuation is not the be all and end all of what these games are. That is something that you have to think of on your own.
