In my opinion acheivments are an amazing idea. Alot of gamers need to feel like they are accomplishing something (Like titles, badges and online scores) to let every one know how commited they are at playing the game. Not just a feeling of accomplishment in some cases, but acheivments let you unlock in game material and in some cases achievments go to a credit for Rl merchandise. this is the perfict mechanism to combine gaming and real life.

Hi I hate achievement trophies, I prefer to be rewarded with things you can use in the game (like how stealing all the cars in GTA used to get you a respawning stock of cars) instead of useless and arbitrary points.

It would be nice if they could do both;
but they don't so I hate them.

No not really, I've been playing Battlefield: Bad Company online recently because I noticed my blood pressure was too low, and I needed another heart attack.

Only reason I bought Dead Space was to complete the acheivements that were left on there after I rented it... So yes, I'm also a Trophy whore. How bad? well, I have 2 Platinums for 4 games that support them, and working on a 3rd in Resistance 2..

I wouldnt say im an achievement whore i just like getting them they add to the gaming experience and add an edge of competitivness between friends. trying to beat my mate to 20,000 right now he is ahead by 600
