Totally agree.

But it should be amusing to see who signs on as the advertisers...given that almost every single one is now defunct due to the "curse".

And there's an AWFUL lot of smoking in Blade Runner. Can't see that making the cut...

I know there was the old PC adventure game (still fun to play, but some parts of it clock too fast due to modern CPUs - there is a way around it) and some books but there's so much more that could be done nowadays.
Just one book, originally. Blade Runner was based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick.

And while Blade Runner was an immersive and rather powerful experience, I'd often wondered what a movie adaptation that retained a greater number of the novel's themes and ideas would be like. I'm not naive enough to think that this is what mr. Scott has in mind, though ;-)

I love dystopian science fiction and neo-noir - Ridley Scott and Alcon Entertainment are welcome to make as many of those as they please, for all I care. However, my gut tells me, that should a new Blade Runner film be green lighted, it will be an action-flick... in 3D.

It certainly does not need a sequel or prequel.. but the possibilities of either of them (particularly the prequel) definitely excite me. I do worry that a subpar movie will hurt the legacy of one of the greatest films of all time but the announcement that Scott is so involved does alleviate my concerns about the project somewhat.

"It's about as close to perfect as a film can get"

About as perfect a film can get if its looking to put me in a coma.

The best quote I've found to sum up my feelings on Blade Runner was something like: "every scene has 6 different subtexts, but no text." Just imagine me growling that as I drill through my brain in boredom.

The film was definitely "that thing" for me that I just don't "get".
Completely agree. Blade Runner was highly influential; in my opinion, that doesn't mean it was actually any good. I found it to be slow, meandering and boring.

I suppose it's very much a YMMV movie.

That said, remakes - and decades-late sequels - are very rarely a good thing. I pity those who did enjoy Blade Runner, and are probably going to have to watch the franchise's reputation get destroyed.

The best thing about this is that Scott has the perfect excuse once the film inevitably fails.

'Well the first film was a critical failure, and look where it is now.'

I watched blade runner recently and I have to say, I couldn't find any reason why so many people like.
It wasn't bad but not good either.

At least its in the hands of the guy behind the first, which is more then most people could hope for in similar situations.

I doubt either Rutger Hauer or Harrison Ford would want in a sequel, they were both very disappointed about how heavily it was implied that Decker was a replicant.

I didn't really like the film, honestly. Maybe 2011 visuals might make up for the whole film being so fucking dark that I couldn't see shit.

Lucas raped Indiana Jones so why should we be shocked that Scott is gonna rape Deckard? It's just what old directors do nowadays.

Ford's character realized at the end when the last replicant died, that there was nothing that truely seperated them from eachother, beyond the obvious physical aspects. I see it as the main problem with creating advance AI, at what point is the AI still a software program, and when is it human?
In the Philip K Dick book, Rick's not an andy and the answer to the "when is AI not" is empathy.

I'm surprised at how ambiguous they made the movie, these issues were very clear. But please, the book's my favourite book but the movie is just zzzzz

God not another, and Ford probably won't do it for peanuts this time if he does so it'll have some executive meddling.

Also; what'd the story be about, anyway? the awful sequel-to-movie-but-not-the-book books not written by the same author?

Hehe those cigarettes, I had to find out what they were. Apparently they're rough french ones that you can't even get any more.

Am I the only one who thinks Blade Runner was a shit movie? It was so boring.

EDIT: This is not even trolling, I really didn't like the film.

Eh, Blade Runner was okay but I found it to be highly overated with the cinematogrophy being the only truly exceptional thing about it. Honestly when it comes to Ridley Scott I find that while he consistently seems to make a lot of good films he's never really made anything great with the possible exception of Alien. But back on topic while I don't care much for Blade Runner I can sympathise with the fans having to put up with an unecessary sequel.
