Reporting from Arkansas, it's legal to make a right on red as long as there isn't a sign that says no. Is it smart? Not really...People around here drive like maniacs.

In Washington it says in our driving book that it is legal and everyone does it repeatedly anyways. I've done it too. In fact, if you don't do it, the cars behind you start to get really pissed off. Of course you have to make sure it is ok to go so that you don't crash into another car but it is perfectly legal here.

As stated above, in the United States, it is legal to turn right on red, unless a sign specifically prohibits it(or prohibits it during certain times).

In Japan it is illegal to make a left on red, unless a sign specifically allows it. In Japan it is illegal to make a right on red unless a sign specifically allows you to do so, onto one of the one way roads.

I live in Southeast Texas and as long as there are no signs that says "No turns on Red", you are allowed to make right turns on Red.
^Same, but I live in Western PA so as long as there's no sign that says you cant turn on red, or as long as there are ones that say no turn on red between 8 am - 4pm (which I never since fora good portion of that time the road will still be mostly empty), and its after the set time, you can turn on red.

Pretty sure its that way in all the states, least continental, but I could be wrong.

US, South Dakota, it's legal to turn right on a red light unless a sign is posted stating "No right turns on red lights". It's treated the same as a stop sign, stop for at least two seconds, make sure it's safe to turn, and on you go.

Right turn on red light? Perfectly legal unless otherwise posted in either Saskatchewan or BC.

Just don't get hit by someone crossing the intersection.[footnote]duh[/footnote] You also have to turn into the lane closest to the sidewalk/ditch/parking lane before turning into the left lane (if there is one).

England here so red means stop, end of. I cannot comprehend how someone would think an exception to a rule like that would ever be a good idea.

So you guys don't make left turns on red lights when it would appear safe to everyone (driver, oncoming traffic, pedestrians) then. Fair enough.

you have to consider what side of the road they drive on to understand why it works.

Jeremy Clarkson calls turning right on a red light "America's only contribution to Western civilization" :p
Of course, we had to do something to counteract unleashing traffic lights.

Strictly, the law is "not turning right on red", but instead it is "turning curb to curb" (meaning following the curb) UNLESS there is a posted sign, typical these say "no turn on red". Further, you must stop before turning.

Most of the US states apply the "follow the curb" law so this means you can turn left if leaving a one way street and entering another. Eight states do not support this law, these are South Dakota, Connecticut, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Rhode Island. Some of the other states have specific rules so best to read your drivers handbook from the DMV, and inside NYC city limits all turns on red are illegal, as you drive in to the city you will see signs about this and not blocking the intersections (junctions).

I found all this out while in Dallas Texas. I asked a cop about two things; Jay Walking and Turning right on red. So, plan B, ask a local cop.

As I haven't even started learning for my learners, I wouldn't know. But I do know that South Africans drive on the left, the wrong side of the road! (thanks Great Britain)

I thought it was just Quebec that didn't allow for rights on red. Otherwise, everywhere you can turn right on a red unless marked otherwise... I think.

Right turns on the red are legal in the U.S. because we drive on the right side. You must come to a complete stop first, use your turn signal, and make sure there isn't any oncoming traffic. When safe to turn, you may do so. Left hand turns on the red are illegal here.

Anywhere I've driven in the United States, yes, unless as sign denotes otherwise.

There's also an intersection in my hometown, Easton, Pennsylvania, where drivers are allowed to turn left on red. Because it's the beginning of a one way street, and there's no oncoming traffic or something. I always thought that was sweet, for some reason.
