He was my rival for many many years in everything imaginable, mostly escalating fights until I became very ill and now everything has sort of been put on hold.........

I bet he says the same about you... Seems like most debaters characterize their opponents that way (and to avoid any misunderstanding - no, I wasn't trying to imply your debating style is actually that).

Back to the topic - can't think of any actual rivalry, probably because I just don't like being involved in any and tend to avoid it. A friend of mine was once going for the same girl, but he stepped back when he found out I was after her too, and I didn't know HE'd been after her until afterwards. So no real rivalry here.

yeah, but it was a friendly rivalry. we would go to parties in high school and see who could score the most phone numbers or compete in drinking games. i was better at the former wile he was better at the latter. it came to a head when i scored his new girlfriends number without knowing they were together. he didnt like that to much so we fought then our rivalry was no more.

I used to be a guitar rival with a guy in my class. We would always fight over playing lead guitar in band, getting the better guitar that the school could afford, and of course battling over who's better(...him). We're cool now... I think... The rivalry actually motivated me into playing more, so thanks to him I'm much better at guitar than I would have.

I won't be pretentious, so I'll admit that jealousy has a lot to do with it, and it happens on both sides: they get jealous, and I do too.
