I was just letting you know you were right. I think it hits a bit of sore spot for some people, I know technically the quote "methinks etc etc" doesn't refer to that but that was basically what I meant.

After living with quite possibly the rudest & crudest girl on the planet for the past 3 years, I can still say that the real thing is so much better that they can't be compared. because this type of herd mentality has never ended well, this we are better than you because you are different.
to a degree i understand these dudes, i don't completely agree with it but hey its their thing.
but people just going against it, for the sake of it being different from the way they thing is just a horrible mentality. i don't like needless discrimination, i am a very large black/arabic man, i have enough of that in my life and i don't like seeing it just done to others so flippantly.

You don't have to have think you're better than someone to be interested in their unusual behavior. And whether you like it or not, it is unusual.

And herd mentality is something else - it's not simply being interested in something. I didn't follow anyone by entering this thread and finding that it interested me. In fact, if we went against our own natural tendencies and took your advice to not care about something we did care about, then we would be engaging in herd behavior.

I think you're making unnecessary assumptions. I don't look down upon someone who thinks 3D girls are disgusting, so you don't need to worry about that. Can't speak for anyone else.

lol it's good to judge people sometimes. the vast majority of the people that are into this nonsense are there to save their ego, a tiny percentage are legitimately happy with pictures of girls over the real thing. the vast majority when asked say "I...can get a g/f!!! easily!! but don't want to!!" but of course they cant because they don't try and think they just deserve to have things come their way because they're too cool to try or some nonsense. I have no problem with that, even if you get creeped out by someone who can longer become physically attracted to an actual female. it is something that is kinda weird, and if it is in fact, real, (something I doubt, it would take some kind of mental superpower to overcome your natural procreational instincts) then leave them be? I have a few friends who are scarily similar to the individual referenced in the OP, I have never really understood it myself, I mean sure anything can be attractive to any individual, just as how there are multitudes of types of porn out there, the same kinda does go for the animated kind, however discounting real people entirely seems utterly ludicrous.

I mean when it comes to RL girls, yes I have my preferences, but that doesn't mean I completely discard girls who don't fall under the umbrella of what I in particular find attractive, likewise the 2d stuff is completely fine, I prefer Kingcheetah's artwork to cartoonlion's, but it doesn't make much difference at the end of the day, because first priority isn't to sit at home and look at pictures of things I find sexy, its to go out, get some beers in me and enjoy the real thing.

Am I wrong for just enjoying the actual act of living, or are the same individuals who think I am some sort of caveman for being what I perceive as "normal" with regards to sex and the pursuit of it in service of simply having fun?

That doesn't detract from the fact that many people do feel a genuine kinship with these characters and an understanding for them, despite the lacking mutuality of that sentiment.

Is it a 'truly' a 'relationship'? I suppose not. Is it 'truly' love? Maybe, albeit one-sided.

For a given defintion of love. When most of us are talking about romantic love, we aren't talking about being "hot under the collar" and lusting after someone. We are talking about being in a sustained relationship with someone, of having to deal with their flaws, of seeing their dirty clothing on the floor or whatever.

Thus to talk about romantic love when it is completely devoid of any capactiy of being returned, rejected or even aware is silly.

I would much prefer the term infatuation, seems more apt to describe the situation.

I'm inclined to agree with you that infatuation is probably a better term in most cases. Though as I said previously, I'm not convinced 'love' has to be two-sided. I think pursuing this point further is just going to break down into semantics.
I think a key point you mention is 'dealing with flaws' which is a focus of contrast since 2D girls don't have any.
If we're talking about 'romantic love', defined in the way that you described as encompassing coming to terms with a persons flaws, I agree that you cannot have the same experience with a fictional person as you can with a real one.


I maintain that a love, in the sense of a feeling of close attachment and endearment, for a fictional character is not objectively inferior to one with a real person. Some people with a fictional love interest are perfectly content with that over a real person and wouldn't change if someone real took an interest in them.
I think it's interesting to look at the 'waifu' culture that exists. Some people strive to maintain a love for a single character and would consider betraying their singular love for that character, in whatever way that might entail, as cheating.
