Oh trust me, just because I've never posted doesn't mean I've never lurked. I'm aware of a few regulars round here :)

I'm sure your basement is filled with smelly socks anyway :p

Thanks for the warm welcome!

A Civil War movie is unlikely at the moment simply bec the MCU superhero population is sparse. Most likely the movie people are going through some development hell motions and stirring up the pot to get people talking to get a script greenlighted. It would be extremely difficult to get well-known actors to take a paycut just to fill up whole rosters of Superhero teams unless they used generic grunts led by 1/2 capes for the crowd building scenes.

In hindsight, I really hated what Civil War started:Yearly events(sometimes more than one). Also a LOT of characters were behaving OUT of character(typical Millar/Bendis nonsense), for example: a free enterprise Tony Stark suddenly pro-govt? Bollocks!

Civil War type stories are better served by animation where you can make characters do whatever you want. There are no egos from actors squabbling for facetime and who gets the meatier dialogue or witty one-liners.

HOW are they going to do Civil War? It will have to be something other than "superhero registration", mainly because almost nobody in the current MCU even HAS a secret identity.

The world knows Tony Stark is Iron Man.
The world knows Steve Rogers is Captain America.
Thor is Thor and has no secret identity.
Bruce Banner is on the run because the government knows who he is.
Black Widow leaked all her and SHILED's personnel files to the public, so she (and Hawkeye and others) have no safe aliases.
The ONLY hero in the current MCU with a secret identity is Daredevil, and he's on a Netflix series that probably won't tie into the movies.

Civil War would have to be over something different.
The main gimmick of the CW storyline is that apart from the whole 'giving up your secret identity' thing, you would need a license and permission from the government in order to perform any super heroic activities. In other words, if you are a super-human, the government owns your ass, whether you want to help people or not. THAT's what didn't sit well with Cap. I think that would be the main basis of the plot if the War ever makes it into theaters.

I'm... a little confused as to why they'd be going with Civil War before they get the rights back to Spidey and the X-Men.
Because with this year's X-men film being the most profitable comic film of the year Fox is never giving up the X-men or Fantastic Four. And anyone who suggests Sony give up Spider-man will quickly be looking for a new job.
Both Guardians and Cap 2 have this years X men beat by far in terms of how much of a profit they made. They far surpass it in revenue and each had budgets of $170 mil as opposed to X Men's $200 mil.

LOL yeah your wrong http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?view2=worldwide&yr=2014&p=.htm
Ah, it seems I was only looking at the domestic revenue as opposed to worldwide.

I don't mind being proven wrong, but I'd appreciate something less smug than a "LOL yea your wrong". A simple "you're wrong" will suffice. No need to act superior. I was close - taking budgets into account it's less than 2 million behind

As much as I loved the IDEA of Civil War, when I actually purchased the graphic novel and read it... for the most part I was disappointed. I also really don't think it will work too well on the big screen, considering how they have established their characters currently and that they are lacking the rights for several people. I mean, I've seen someone on this thread say they could replace Spider-Man with another hero, but really the fact that it WAS Spider-Man was a big part of why his role in the comic worked, it would just be weird without him.

Overall, I really don't think I'm looking forward to this if it is the route they're going. I'll still give it a chance though, they've done well so far.

But...Civil War sucked. Like, really sucked. Talking like, one of the worst comics I've read in a long time that wasn't written by someone at DC.

The Civil War storyline is an odd choice. It was a big crossover, it did have Cap and IM at the forefront on opposite sides and in all fairness, if Evans/RDJ aren't going to stick around for a great deal longer (and they want to use the storyline) then they kinda have to do it sooner rather than later. Saying that, the whole arc is predicated on having a *huge* cast of heroes from all over the Marvel landscape.

The mutants famously sat it out (citing enough problems of their own), the Punisher and Spiderman were (while not strictly pivotal) certainly important in the roles they played. Without a large cast of heroes, the Civil War storyline simply lacks any teeth. In short, they need a *lot* more superheroes involved and taking sides for the storyline to matter, else it's just two people disagreeing with each other.

As an aside on the point about Spiderman, his "reveal" was a massive coup for Iron Man and pro-registration and his subsequent change of mind just as important. I can't remember the line exactly, but it was along the lines of "If even Spiderman, whose identity has always been the most closely guarded secret agrees...". But Spiderman can't be involved because he doesn't belong to Marvel.

40mill for a cameo...RDJ is the King of Hollywood. Not even Johnny Depp could command that fee.

This is probably the first time I've really lamented the lack of X-Men in the MCU. I liked the Civil War story line, but my absolute favorite bit was the heroes showing up on the Mutant reservation asking for help.
Any civil war story line is going to sorely miss the muties. :/

Put me down for team Iron Man! Woot! I know it's a Cap movie so he'll have to loose, but still :D.

I also like the idea of the Superhero Registration Act if they play it as the moral grey area it is. A Rights vs Gun Registration type scenario. Of course, if they make one side the obvious good side it'll loose a lot.
Ummm? Not to spoil anything, but if you have not read it, you might want to look into the actual comic Civil War storyline. It's going to be another "Winter Soldier" moment where the comic nerds know what's comming and get yelled at for spoiling things that have been basic fact and major character elements for 10+ years.
Sorry, I'm only a Class 7 Nerd with no particular specialty in comics so I am in the dark about a lot of past comic plots and I enjoy my ignorance going into the movies.

God, let this be just a total horse-shit rumor. The last thing the MCU needs is to be handcuffed to one of the worst ideas ever put onto paper. Going down this road will kill any momentum Marvel/Disney have already built up. Besides, Mark Millar does not need anymore ego stroking. He needs to have his scrawny, drunken ass tenderized with a cricket bat for the majority of his work (Civil War, Kick-Ass, and Wanted to name a few).
Aww, I liked Kickass (He was completely off his meds in Kickass 2 though, definitely). And Civil War is a cool idea- a big war over a disagreement, rather than just another big baddie apocalypse plot-, but the narrative was absolutely drawn out and tortured to the point of tedium.

Maybe Millar is just a good idea guy who sucks at execution?
That is a good theory but I've felt that Millar tends to be someone who can produce good stuff if he's on a short leash. When he does his own thing without restrictions, he has a habit of going too far. But that's how I feel about him.
