I haven't touched gta 5, but i doubt that it's built around pimping stolen cars. You seem to hate this game for some reason. Noone here is claiming that it's perfect, most games have bugs, but at least this one seems more annoying than game breaking.

....uh, buddy? GTA stands for "Grand Theft Auto", which is the legal term for the theft of a car.

And it's called that primarily because the core of the game centers around the theft of cars (and sometimes, military helicopters and tanks) and other various illegal activities.

Certainly, car theft isn't the ONLY thing you do in GTA. But saying that car theft isn't central to GTA is like saying guns aren't central to Call of Duty because there are occasions in which you do things other than shoot people with guns. It's one of the game's big boasting points, the act of stealing cool cars which you can then "pimp out" and the like. It's a HUGE focal point of the game.

But no, obviously because I'm pointing out a bug in GTA V, I "hate this game". Never mind that I was an avid player of previous GTA games back in the day, but let's not let the facts distract us from your strawman. :p

EDIT: Wasn't just 3 I'd played, I remembered that I also have played some of the other more recent ones.
And when did i say that stealing cars is not a major part of the game? did you even bother reading before looking up that shitty picture?

Personally i know that i didn't give a fuck about car mods in san andreas, and there was none in other installments so i assumed that other people also didn't care that much about modding something that will be trashed during the next mission.

It's about pointing out a bug, but the way you do it..

I wanted to find a funny picture themed around comparing dick sizes, to lampoon the participants of this thread. But I didn't use much finesse in choosing my search terms.
I saw things.
Unspeakable things.

Now I just want to curl into a foetal position.

I hope you're all bloody happy.

It's as good an excuse as any.

I think I'll be waiting on V until they work out all of these small but awful bugs.
Basically there are the safe houses you can live and watch tv that have a "drive-in" garage and then there are 4 vehicle lock-up garages that you purchase independently that never fail to keep your car inside when you walk or drive away however if you take the car out it then of course can be destroyed but the problem with those is the are not near your own safe houses or an autoshop to fix-customize them.

So in other words, the "disconnect" is that, because I added the word "upgrade" to my post, it's instantly wrong, even though you admit that the other 90% of the post is correct?
No, it's about 50% because you said two things and we disagreed with one. That's how fractions and percentages work.

You know what we call that in formal debate? A strawman argument.
What? No. It would be called nitpicking at worst but it's actually a disagreement as to an assertion.

My original post is very much clear. Stealing cars is a core component of the game.
Of course, nobody said it wasn't.
Upgrading cars is also a pretty large facet of the game nowadays (though it wasn't as big in the older iterations due to limitations at the time), and given how much emphasis is placed upon it in the newer games, yes, I would go so far as to call it a "core" facet.
Considering how disposable cars have traditionally been and still are in GTA it seems a bit strange to call it "large", "important" or "emphasized". Seldom is there a situation in the game where you can't just steal a better car.
You disagree, fine, but I really don't care.
I gathered that by the meme picture you threw out for what is essentially no apparent reason.
What's important,
I really don't care. See, two can do that and it really doesn't paint you in any positive light during a debate.
and what this discussion has always been about, is the fact that both
No, one of those components. You can still STEAL cars as often as you like. Keeping them is another matter.
of these components are significantly hindered by a bug that can wipe out all of their progress.
Can wipe out ONE of those aspect's progress.

Is that sufficiently simple enough of an explanation? I hope so. Now if you please, can we actually discuss the contents of the article? Is that okay?
We were discussing the contents of the article. You know, how upgrading a car is being impacted by this. You were the one making it about theft for some reason, I guess as an excuse to link that god-awful pretentious meme picture at someone who wasn't even talking about what you disagreed with them about.

So because you don't care about car mods and upgrading features, it's not a key component of the game, even if it's one of the most popular components of said game.

Got it. That makes perfect sense. I'd repost that picture again, but I think it goes without saying.
No, I think if there's one person deserving of that picture it would be you. You didn't actually answer his question as to where he said that stealing cars is not a major part of the game. You know, the thing you had a go at him for supposedly saying.

In a game built around stealing and upgrading cars...
What Abomination and I are disagreeing with you over is the 2nd part of that sentence, that part bolded, that upgrading cars is ALSO a core feature.
I'm going to regret getting in the middle of this...

If upgrading and customizing cars wasn't a feature in GTAV, then it wouldn't be a feature. Most vehicles in the game have dozens and dozens of options to change the characteristics and appearance of the vehicle. Why are they there if they're not intended to be used?

I believe the disagreement is with the use of the term "core". Granted, vehicle upgrading is probably not a "core" feature, but it certainly is a feature. And it is one that the player cannot, in confidence, use.

Rockstar may as well not even bothered adding Los Santos Customs or garages to store vehicles beyond the character defaults given the current problems in the game. Therefore, broken feature, whether it's "core" to the game or not.
Yes, the debate was regarding it being a core feature, it is as you said a feature of the game.

OT: I wonder how long it'll be before Rockstar can kill this garage dwelling car eating monster. I haven't modified any of my cars in the game yet as I don't really see a point (however I may do at some point), but if someone spends time doing so it sucks to lose the effort you've done.

Yeah, I regretted even spending a few grand on upgrading the car I had to for a mission. I should've just repaired it, and been done with it. Consdiering how easy it is to lose a custom car, I won't likely ever make use of it until I have so much cash to burn that I may as well.

Say what you will about Saints Row, but they did a lot of things I sorely miss. Cars having permenant entries into your fleet largely. I haven't even been arsed to test the nitro in GTAV cars because, well, I drive like a stereotypical woman blended with a steretypical asian. It's generally a miracle I can get across town with the hood still on the car. <.< That said, my cars don't always make it, and I don't want to lose a million dollar car. I still make a heck of a getaway driver, though!

Plus missions demand you lose your car, pretty much. What the heck am I to do? Waste cash when I haven't reached the big money missions?
No, I just jack cars, and try to remember my favs while I save up for properties.

How do you get away when your car is up a tree? :p

But yeah, Saints Row had car storage down pretty well. And a LOOOOOOOT of other things.

Actually, I mostly just wish for a (non-superhero) Saints Row on this freaking map. That would be awesome.

GTA V stuck to reality and put in an option to roll my car while I'm still inside it by just accelerating really hard and moving the thumb stick/steering wheel. *Nods*

It's a shame we'll prolly never see Volition and R* Team up, or share notes.

GTAO will prolly get close enough for me. Sure the cars, and the gangs will be different, but here's to hoping it'll be fun enough, and 'll have a female 4th character.

Yeah, I'm really glad they went the realism route on that one. I mean, I'm an awesome driver[footnote]no I'm not[/footnote] but even I have my off moments.

The optimist in me wants to believe that team up would be epic. Solid gameplay, solid story, black humour, and fun up the wazoo.

The realist in me assumes it would lead to a 6 hour GTA with on-disc DLC and outfits stripped from the game to sell back to us at a buck apiece.

If it had better controls, I'd be all "Saints Who?" Alas, it may be "close enough" for me as well, but I don't know. RDR Online was pretty cool, and this has more, so...I do need something to tide me over until SR4 is cheap enough for me to chance it.

I am glad there are female avatars, though. Now, if they have options sufficient to let me recreate my SR2/3 character, I will be very happy.

This is why I stick to upgrading the default cars; they're all pretty good anyway. I tried once to save a Lambo at Michael's house, but I lost it after a mission.

Captcha: 'save it'. How apt.

Yeah, hating most cars, and most aircraft (especially choppers) and the storage system isn't exactly helping the game win any favors. The controlls aren't as fun as saints row. Any of them. Not yet anyhow. I can prolly adapt I guess. Still, it seems pressure sensitive more than anything, and 'm pretty heavy handed.
Hopefully Online's a rich experience as I keep hearing to make the flaws worth overlooking.

I hope the character creation is robust enough for the both of us.

If you leave it in Safehouse A's garage, it will stay in Safehouse A's garage; it doesn't also appear in Safehouses B and C as well. That's a design feature, not a bug.
Which means if you leave an expensive, tricked-out car in Franklin's aunt's garage, you will lose that car when he moves out. Because once Franklin leaves his aunt's, he can no longer access that garage.

Good job, Rockstar.
I think you can still get into the garage at his aunts house, btw when Franklin moved my saved car went to his new garage.

So you know, you seem to be missing the point and complaining about the wrong thing.

EVERY Saints Row game I've played is bugged up the ass. And I love the games to pieces, but they were bugged up the ass. Now, you can certainly argue "boring as hell" until the cows come home, but let's not pretend the SR games were even remotely bug free.

Yup, incredibly fun games, but horrendous bugfests, especially the PC version of SR2. My favourite has to be SR2 running too fast or slow under Vista and Win7 if your CPU had a different clock speed to the one in the XBox360 (in other words, most CPU's)
