I used to forum RP a lot on another forum, but I haven't done anything of that sort here. I've never played D&D or any of those other games. Would like to someday.

I used to role play back in my old FFXI Linkshell. We had some really intricate and intense story lines that played out, and to be honest that was what kept me playing the game and developing my Dark Knight--the intensity of our RP's. Miss those days. /sadfaic

Well, the other night...

Oh, wrong kind of roll play?

Kidding, kidding.

OT:

I love role playing games. Particularly Elder Scrolls: Oblivion modded for better ability to actually be immersed and roll play. Great game mechanics and engine and everything, just needs a few mods to make those aspects better.

I try to do it in games, but then give up after 2 hours when I start to remember that it's a bloody game.

Back in my WoW days I tried going on a RP realm... butI couldn;t take some people seriously. They pput their heart and soul in to it when I just did it because I kinda had to :S

I've been roleplaying for quite a while, starting with simple stories on pen and paper and ending with having created entire roleplaying games of my own (i've never played DnD though). But, seemingly that I was the only one that remained inside writing those things up while most of my friends were busy having lives, I never really got to play those games with other people.

That's when I found some remarkable quality roleplay on a gaming forum I was on at the time (that being in a futuristic setting, which was great). After that died down, I just went to another, more roleplay oriented forum. I still roleplay there.
Sparking your inspiration by collaboratively writing with others is a great way to keep your creativity alive.

I also roleplay in most games when I've played through the story once. After that, I always try to stick to what the character would do. Say, I'd be a sniper, then I snipe, not relentlessly run into the enemy with my pistol. Or if I were an apocalypse survivor (yes, totally fallout there) I'd actually run around confused and unwieldy with anything else than a lead pipe and my standard outfit before I would 'realize' that I could actually hit something if I aimed well enough with a half-broken pistol. I didn't run around with buckets of ammo or useless guns I'd just use once or twice either.

Roleplaying is fun, really.

I roleplay in every game that gives me the possibility to. Which mostly means RPGs, although not online. I'm simply not the greatest fan of MMORPGs, in part also because I always felt that they don't really give me a chance to take the role of a character. I also attempted to roleplay in some RTS games, making up a character for my invisible commander guy. Yeah, was a bit strange.
DnD and such things would probably just be what I like, but there is nobody around here I know to play with. So I can scrap that.
Where I am an avid roleplayer on the other hand is on another forum. I also always meant to give the RP forums down here a look, but never quite managed to.

I've done a couple forum RPs, but they both kind of died.

I'm thinking about starting a western one, I have a story and all, but I'm nervous about starting an RP, because I've never done it before.

Dabbled with it on WoW, but, well... you could tell that pretty much everyone on my server suffered from an unholy combination of illiteracy and histrionic personality disorder. I wanted to play as a humble, world-weary warrior, but every time I introduced myself as a normal-yet-interesting character, I was met with this:

Zargbax: I AM OLDER THAN TIME ITSELF, AND I HAVE SEEN TEH RISE AND FALL OF A HUNDRED EMPMIRES! I DESTORYED MY HOME PLANET BECAUSE THEY WERE AFRAID OF MY POWER AND NOW I AM HERE TO CONQUER YOU ALL!! BOW DOWN BEFFORE ME!
Zargbax looks at you evilly and demadns that you bow down.
Zargbax roars. So fierce!
Zargbax flexes. So strong!

Zargbax: e/ shoots energy beams at random people walknig by and evisserates them
Zargbax: (sorry about spelling was hurrying lol))

Every. Goddamn. Time.

I did 3D&T for quite a while. I was the Master in a RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Orwellian society thing.
But the website suffered a big face-lift and I lost the Prologue, the characters, story, rules, sheets, etc...

But I miss those times. 4 hours to prepare the game, damn.

I'm the GM of a group of newbie DnD players.

So far, it's fun, though I feel I should work on the details a bit more.

OT:Iv had a bit of a difficult relationship with role-playing. DnD I remeber being fun...at one point...but now, my group is content to bicker with one another over rules and regulations, throw in memes whenever possible, and act as if a Kobold would have the voice of Bill Cosby. I fucking hate my friends sometimes.

As for Forum RP, well...Iv tried a few times, but lack of time prevented me from ever making any serious commitment. whats awful is I rarely say i'm dropping out, and so my character usually just vanishes into the Ether. if iv ever Rped with anyone reading and dropped out, please accept my apologies!

Really? I had the exact opposite problem with WoW RP. They took it too far. Like so far that it was a problem to go to dungeons as a Warlock with a Priest or Paladin in the party. Even if your backstory had you as a double agent for the forces of light.

My friend role plays with just one other person, and they have multiple storylines all going in the same universe. I don't know if that is the kind of RPing that's being discussed, but I think it's amazing what they do. Some are original characters, some are already made up, and they are all connected, somehow.

I've seen it going on, and I don't think I could ever keep up with that kind of stuff. It boggles my mind the amount of backstory that they've already accumulated.

Back when I played WoW, I roleplayed. I found it brought a new level to immersion to the game... Unfortunately, there were very few RPPVP realms in which people actually roleplayed.

I don't roleplay anymore because when I tried I still somehow managed to roleplay as a bigger loser than I already am...it's a vicious circle...sigh

Why do I roleplay? I would I roleplay? Well, for the adventure! People seem to peg roleplayers as someone who wants to explore the minds of their characters, who want to escape life, who do it because they feel inadequate. Me? While I probably fit those last two categories fairly well (there are just things I can't do, have failed to do, and simply want a break for a couple hours a week from the stress) I more so love the feeling of exploring, and this is something I share with my real life self as well.

Within RP boards, it's a little more difficult as locations are generally centric. However, I still like to explore every facet of them, understand the cultures, the scenery, every nook and cranny that has been created so tediously. If it has yet to be discovered, you can bet I'll discover it.

Within MMOs, I'm the first guy to always run off and see the sights. Whenever I party, the proposition is always "let's go on an adventure!" Whether that adventure consists of exploring a place I've never seen, hunting a monster over the vast scenery of the world (no flight masters or mounts for me!) or simply going and grinding in an exotic location, it's always some sort of adventure when I play.

As for real life? I've just gotten out of my shell and let this sense of exploration bleed into my true existance in a full blown passion. While I have always enjoyed hiking, canoeing and orienteering with my trail blazing style of thought, long distance travel has been non-existant until recently. I made a trip to England and it was absolutely exhilirating! The sights were just boggling for someone who comes from a small city, especially when somewhere like Sheffield (of all places) seemed so daunting to me. I know that'll sound silly for some of our U.K. members, but it truly was for me!

And so we come to the final and most exciting step for me: pen & paper! D&D mostly, but really any fantastic setting is fine in this regard. I just adore exploring the world that's been created and revel in a Dungeon Master who can weive vivid explinations into their craft. From the rainbow mysteries of the Feywild to exploring the sulfery ruins of Bael Turath, it gets my blood pumping all the same. I find I'm generally the catalyst, which sure is a God send to DMs for groups that like to overthink their options. I despise standing around and I always push my party to go over the next horizon or face the next villain or do whatever it is we need to do so I can hit the trail once more!

So as you can see, though my roleplaying is robust, it shares a state of mind with my actual self. I just enjoy discovery and it's no different if I can imagine it in my mind or see it with my own two eyes. The feel is just breath taking and adrenaline pumping for me, though obviously more so in real life than sitting at a table. None the less, hearing the colourful expressions coming from a DM is still energizing and a beautiful thing to behold and I suggest that if you don't want to contect yourself to someone different, simply play yourself and enjoy the game for other aspects!
