I'de say The Sims, especially 2. For a simple reason: you could make your own love stories, recreate the perfect Hollywood romance. The diner by candlelight, the picnic by night, the first kiss on the patio...sigh, made me so jealous sometimes. Ofcourse, jealous enough to always make it end up in tears: letting them both drown in swimming pools, locking them up and let them starve to death, set one of them on fire or just let them break up painfully. Ain't I evil, harharhar.

Sands of Time really, the first SoT. They came off as interesting and realistic characters. It sounded like listening to a sitcom, not bad random dialogue.

I think the Video Game business needs more romantic games, with true relationships between them.

That way they can screw with ya by killing them.

Also, Halo. There is no way I can try to trick myself into believing there was no romantic element to MC and Cortana. It seems obvious to mee.

Plundered Hearts by Infocom. It is a true Mills & Boon romance in an interactive fiction. This is how it starts:

>SHOOT THE PIRATE
Trembling, you fire the heavy arquebus. You hear its loud report over the roaring wind, yet the dark figure still approaches. The gun falls from your nerveless hands.

"You won't kill me," he says, stepping over the weapon. "Not when I am the only protection you have from Jean Lafond."

Chestnut hair, tousled by the wind, frames the tanned oval of his face. Lips curving, his eyes rake over your inadequately dressed body, the damp chemise clinging to your legs and heaving bosom, your gleaming hair. You are intensely aware of the strength of his hard seaworn body, of the deep sea blue of his eyes. And then his mouth is on yours, lips parted, demanding, and you arch into his kiss...
He presses you against him, head bent. "But who, my dear," he whispers into your hair, "will protect you from me?"

Yeah, I guess I agree.

Also, Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors in Jedi Outcast.

He acts like he doesn't care, but he DOES.

Cookie for the reference. It's about another Star Wars character, but not from Star Wars.

I don't know, the only games that have anything I could call romance are JRPGs and there has yet to be character in one of these that I have found believable, interesting, and likable.

Other than that no real romance in most of the game people have mentioned just hints at it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Odin Sphere... I can't be the only one who played it

The Darkness then. Can't believe nobody mentioned it yet.

Yeah! Even though there were only a very small amount of bits to connect with that character, it hit me harder then integral characters dying.

Because it actually TRIED to get you to connect with her.

Yea that was good. It was even more screwed up in the comic because Jenny was already dead by the time Jackie finds out. He actually goes into hell to rescue her soul.

Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X/X-2.

And I have to admit that those being my prime examples of romance in video games is kind of sad, as much as I love them.

I think it was worse in the game, because he had to see her die, and he couldn't save her BECAUSE OF The Darkness.

I concur. Say what you will about the rest of the plot making no frickin' sense. The romance is lovely. Also, I like the romance in Fire Emblem 7. It made me tear up when...well, I won't spoil it...
