This is a list of 20 rules that should be followed by anyone playing multiplayer games. Me and a friend wrote it when I was incredibly bored and he was playing RF:G online.

Rules Of Multiplayer Gaming.

1. Don't question these rules
2. Don't question the admin/mods
3. Be modest, yet honest.
4. You're entitiled to your opinion, but don't mistake it for fact
5. Only teabag/gloat for godlike stuff
6. Learn what godlike is before applying rule #5
7. Unless for a valid reason, abandonning your team is unacceptable.
8. If you do have a valid reason, announce you are leaving.
9. Only noobs call other people noobs
10. An exception to rule #9 is if the accused party is breaking another rule.
11. Admins: The banhammer is there for your protection, not amusement.
12. If something comes up and you must go AFK, don't go AFK, leave the game while following rules #7 & 8
13. Team-killing on purpose is never acceptable. If accidental, apologize immediately, or it will be deemed to be on purpose.
14. The mic is for the game, not for you.
15. If you are playing a co-op game, a mic is required (while following rule #14), unless under the extreme case in which you cannot acquire one. However, this excuse is impossible to be applied on XBox, since the XBox itself comes with a mic.
16. If you have lost anything pertaining to the game, especially mic(s), get a new one ASAP.
17. If you cannot afford one, you are either lying or homeless. Scratch that, you're lying.
18. A cheap move is exactly that- a cheap move. Not a pro tactic. Know the difference.
19. Hacking/cheating/exploiting is the worst know offence to multiplayer gaming.
20. LEEEEEEEEEROOYYYYY... JEEEEEEEENNNKINSSSSSSSS!

Let me know what you think.

EDIT: It seems like people are taking this way too seriously. THIS LIST WAS MADE FOR FUN! No one's forcing you to follow these rules.

Nice, except I never do what my team wants and I never use a mic, at least in Halo. And I always do fine.

Rule 15: Not every Xbox comes with a mic. =\

17: Some people have better things to spend that $15-$20 on.

Well, if you got the Core/Arcade package (which are the only ones that DON'T come with mics), you shouldn't be playing online anyways.

Then they shouldn't go on co-op. Sure it may not be that important to you, but to other people, communication is a priority. Also, you can get cheap ones for like 8 bucks. It's not a goddamn boat.

I was expecting something funny, but yeah, that's about right.

When not online, we have to treat people respectfully or they'll punch us in the face or go tell everyone we know what complete idiots we are. Online, there is no such problem, but you should treat people respectfully anyway and good karma does come back around even in a computer game.

The mic isn't as important as the headphones if you do what the team leader says, but occasionally you will have important information to communicate to the team. The mic/headphones also goes a long way toward keeping it real (sometimes, for many anyway), in other words, not being a total jerk.

Since you mention Leroy Jenkins, there about twenty more online rules that could apply just to World of Warcraft/MMOs. For example: earning gold and leveling is part of the game; you wouldn't pay someone in China to win Halo for you, would you? Also, in Battlegrounds you should always play to win and not to trade victories or help another faction, since other teammates will be playing to win.

Awesome list!

May I add one?

21 Wasting ammo by shooting into rocks/walls/the ground and throwing grenades everywhere and then not having enough for a firefight is your own fault no the game's

It's happened to me before on halo many times.

I'll probably add this to the Bible, but the top 20 are the most important; rule of thumb-type.

Yeah. If someone decides they don't want the most expensive console of it's type, they shouldn't play online. That's like saying that if someone doesn't like your favorite candy they should go jump off of a bridge onto a sharp rock.

People have more important things to spend money on. Food, water, electricity, mortgage. Saying someone shouldn't be able to enjoy themselves with their online friends because they have higher financial priorities is just childish. =\

Rules Of Multiplayer Gaming.

1. Don't question these rules
Why not?

2. Don't question the admin/mods
You should question everything to know more.

3. Be modest, yet honest.
I agree.

4. You're entitiled to your opinion, but don't mistake it for fact
Agreed.

5. Only teabag/gloat for godlike stuff
Tea-bag when you wish. Even though it's stupid, some people get mad and will not play right anymore. It's a good tactic sometimes.

6. Learn what godlike is before applying rule #5
*See answer for #5*

7. Unless for a valid reason, abandonning your team is unacceptable.
Agreed.

8. If you do have a valid reason, announce you are leaving.
Agreed.

9. Only noobs call other people noobs
And one should rather learn self-control and not get mad when called noobs. It's also a way of making people mad and lose concentration.

10. An exception to rule #9 is if the accused party is breaking another rule.
*See answer for #9*

11. Admins: The banhammer is there for your protection, not amusement.
Agreed.

12. If something comes up and you must go AFK, don't go AFK, leave the game while following rules #7 & 8
Agreed.

13. Team-killing on purpose is never acceptable. If accidental, apologize immediately, or it will be deemed to be on purpose.
Agreed.

14. The mic is for the game, not for you.
I prefer not to talk on the mic. Not everyone is comfortable talking over one.

15. If you are playing a co-op game, a mic is required (while following rule #14), unless under the extreme case in which you cannot acquire one. However, this excuse is impossible to be applied on XBox, since the XBox itself comes with a mic.
No, as stated in someone's post, not all Xbox 360s come with a mic. A mic is not required, just understanding of the game.

16. If you have lost anything pertaining to the game, especially mic(s), get a new one ASAP.
No.

17. If you cannot afford one, you are either lying or homeless. Scratch that, you're lying.
I have better things to use my money on than buy a mic for online games.

18. A cheap move is exactly that- a cheap move. Not a pro tactic. Know the difference.
Agreed, but getting confidence in yourself sometimes helps you play better.

19. Hacking/cheating/exploiting is the worst know offence to multiplayer gaming.
Agreed.

20. LEEEEEEEEEROOYYYYY... JEEEEEEEENNNKINSSSSSSSS!
No...just no.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying... that and the Core/Arcade weren't meant for Live, since Live requires a memory storage unit, which you have to get separately.

You're right, how am I ever going to pay my electric bill without that $15?

Fuck you. A legitimate strategy is a legitimate strategy, and you can cry some more if you can't protect yourself against it rather than calling it cheap.
This is an example of someone who uses cheap moves.

Only noobs try to defend noobs that are being called noobs because they are trying to make it seem like there's nothing wrong with being a noob.

I joke, but this list was right. Every word. Also, I have 2 very expensive mics and both of them are broken, so I have to go out and buy a crappy headset because of your rules. Also, I can type really fast, so that's helpful.

also, about that cheap moves rule...some people seem to think that healing is cheap or using your bubble (i'm a pally, can you tell?) and i completely disagree...you should know what the class you are going up against is capable of and expect everything. i don't scream cheap when a rogue is almost dead and it stuns me to jump back into the shadows.

That's not a cheap move then. What I mean by cheap move is something that is widely accepted and believed to be a cheap move by the majority of the players in whichever game you're playing.

Well a bit harsh but hey. I would like to know what these "cheap tactics" are and how do you tell the difference? Is sniping a cheap tactic? How abut buttonmashing in a fighting game? Is that a cheap tactic when you smoke a pro who knows all the combos? Is hiding around a corner and meleeing someone in the face when they turn in cheap? The more I post this the more I realize that it is only cheap to the loser. The only way that anything can be cheap is if one is using different hardware or software then everyone else (and I don't mean your PC specs I mean cheating devices). I have hardly found a game that wasn't balanced. Sure I have been absolutely raped by playing them but the tactics weren't cheap. They were smart and I just called them cheap cuz I was bitter I didn't have an opportunity to use them myself (well that round).
