So not happening. The market would never accept it and EA would take the brunt of the impact. If Apple really wants a viable gaming position, they should let us build our own Macs with our own hardware, and stop being a d*ck about it.
Apple really puzzles me sometimes. And the people who defend them puzzle me even more.
Why would the market not accept it? Assuming they continue to provide Windows games then all we will end up with is lots of additional sales to mac users.
Also while you may pay a premium to have a mac with limited hardware, you also get the added security that something relesed for the mac will run as hardware is a know quantity, and testing can be much more vigourous.
Known hardware: In the game industry, that's called a console. The only difference being a Mac has a keyboard and mouse. It's not perfect, but I can still build my own system, and that's an important factor for me. That makes ME my own R&D, sales, and repair departments.
Market acceptance: Apple buying EA to make games on Windows? That sounds a whole lot like the oft-maligned "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" strategy Microsoft employs. Embrace multiplatform content from a large publisher, later Extend special functionality to Macs, and finally Extinguish Windows gaming. I have no problem with them doing it... I think it's a valid aggressive business tactic, one Microsoft would probably try to defend against instead of wining and complaining. But it would be awfully hypocritical of Apple.
Speaking directly to market acceptance, gamers who rely on PC's to be gaming platforms would feel quite betrayed, don't you think?
