I still don't get it. Clearly I am dumb :-(poiumty said:the honor. Too lazy to write out more detailed instructions.SonicWaffle said:I...don't get it. An honour of bonus Connor?poiumty said:Pffft. Missed pun, right there. Just replace hour with honor and... yeah.An Amazon listing suggests that PS3 players will get an hour of bonus Connor.
Aren't Ubisoft French, and weren't the last few games primarily developed in Canada?Dumoras said:anyone want to explain giving exclusive content to a Japanese company over the dominant American company, for an American game, about the American revolution, in the American market where roughly sixty percent or more of games are going to be sold.
It's a risk, sure, but I doubt even the most rabid of console war veteran cares that much about a measly hour of missions that were probably cut from the game because they weren't good enough. They'll probably still spit venom on the message boards about hating Sony, but then go out and buy the game on the 360 anywayJ Tyran said:Thats another problem, they probably will not gain many extra sales from doing this. The risk is how many people will say "PS3 getting extra?!? FFFFUUUUU Ubisoft, I aint buying the game now!."SonicWaffle said:Well, logically speaking, that is probably the better market to reach out to and try and get some new sales. I just think this is a foolish method of doing so. The only people who are going to care are the people who were going to buy the game anyway, and if they have a PS3 then they were probably going to buy a PS3 copy because most people can't afford multiple consoles.J Tyran said:You gotta love Ubisoft, they choose to screw over the other platforms in favor of the least selling console that sells the least games.
Gotta love that logic.
I doubt that there was anyone who was uninterested before whose mind has been changed by the promise of an extra hour of playtime in a game they didn't care about.
True. It's usually the PS3 crowd that draws the short straw on these deals anyway. Interesting to see it might be different for a change.Fappy said:In before the irony of 360 users complaining about PS3 getting exclusive content. Seriously though, to both sides: some consoles get exclusive deals.
I know quite a few people with both consoles myself included and as I don't really have a preferred option in this case I will get the PS3 version but if the Xbox one is better I get that there clearly is a large enough install base with both consoles otherwise this stuff wouldn't happen.SonicWaffle said:I'd imagine that the percentage of prospective sales who own both consoles is very, very small. I know literally nobody with both consoles; a few who did before getting rid of one because there was no point to owning both or one console - generally the PS3, despite the relative reputations of the machines - broke (amusingly for the topic at hand, all but one of those people kept the 360, so no free DLC for them!) but nobody who still has both. I also don't think I know anybody who would switch from their preferred platform and pick it up on a different one on the promise of a mere hours worth of free content. That seems like something only rabid uber-fans would do.getoffmycloud said:Because some people own both consoles so Sony and Microsoft are competing for the same sale so they pay developers for exclusive content.SonicWaffle said:Oh, wow, what great marketing! It makes me want to run right out and buy a PS3 so I can get my whole hour of content that wasn't good enough to make it into the game proper!
Seriously, does this kind of offer ever work? Ever? Exclusive games/franchises, yes, I can see that being a factor when deciding which console to buy but tidbits like this? It hardly seems worth the bother, and will probably only serve to cause a few fanboy arguments.
Funny, what I hear quite a lot is that so many AAA titles are too big! Anything by Bioware, Obsidian or Bethesda is probably going to soak up some serious hours, though perhaps that's just bias on my part - I can't afford many games so I tend to buy ones I know I'll get my moneys worth fromAndy Shandy said:I would go "Oooh, whoop-di-do! An extra hour!" but for most games nowadays that's probably quite a substantial amount.
To be fair I probably should've qualified that statement with "outside RPGs" =PSonicWaffle said:Funny, what I hear quite a lot is that so many AAA titles are too big! True, true. Sometimes you get other stuff that's a real long-runner, though - something like a GTA game is going to give you a lot of bang for your buck. I still remember how angry I was when I played the Godfather 2 and finished it in just over 10 hours. Even though it was shitAndy Shandy said:To be fair I probably should've qualified that statement with "outside RPGs" =PSonicWaffle said:Funny, what I hear quite a lot is that so many AAA titles are too big! Never have I encountered a game that didn't run perfectly fine on my PS3 on Launch Day.Hitchmeister said:Maybe it's a pre-emptive apology for the nearly inevitable launch day bugs on the PS3. So many multi-platform games are unplayable on PS3 at release and don't get patched to run properly for a couple weeks, so they're saying, "Once it finally works, you'll get these bonus missions to make up for it."
I'm a 360 user, and I won't complain about PS3 users getting exclusive content, because it's a problem on both sides. I'd love to play Heavy Rain and Uncharted, but it's not worth saving my already meagre wage for a PS3 for. However, we Xbox owners get Halo and Gears of War, among various others, not to mention quite a few exclusive indie titles that are pretty damn awesome yet can't be released on PSN due to Microsoft's unfiar strongarming. I won't defend, nor bash, either side there.Fappy said:In before the irony of 360 users complaining about PS3 getting exclusive content. This. The PS3 or 360 version could dispense hookers, weed and Doritos and I still won't buy either version, because I don't have or want either console.Fappy said:In before the irony of 360 users complaining about PS3 getting exclusive content. wrong, it'll be an hour of gameplay that is still part of the story, but not important enough to make you not understand what just happened, so it can be removed and sold separately.SonicWaffle said:Oh, wow, what great marketing!
