Woah Andy...calm down...GFW:Live isn't THAT bad, at least it's functional
What kind of strange parallel universe do you live in?

Does Ubisoft's DRM actually work in your universe?

Woah, I said it was functional, I've had no problems when trying to play Halo 2, Fallout 3 or Batman.

Did I say fantasic? No...no I did not...

I know you said functional. My post still stands, as I've never once had it work.

Well mine works perfectly, so I have no idea what you're doing

this would certainly be an interesting place to start.
I don't think so. Making it not break my computer and/or the game it's bundled to every time it tries (usually unsuccessfully) to update would be a good place to start. Have it not contaminate my savegames, or not provide one of the worst download store frontends, or not make my mouse cursor detach from it's actual location. I can't find any redeeming value, and I shudder when I see that logo pop up.

I can't understand why GFWL doesn't work very well. It should work VERY WELL in Windows! It should be a seamless addition to games in Windows. The developers should know how to do this. Microsoft can afford to hire good programmers. Why aren't the GFWL people shamed onto the street? They've had years to fix this mess.

As long as I have the option to NOT have Live come up when trying to put in a quick game of solitaire this is fine, but if I have to wait 5 minutes for Live to sign me in then I will get out my torch.

Jesus, like we needed more ridiculous gamerscore padding. I wish they'd just abolish gamerscore until they come up with a set rule for points, rather than giving it to the developers.

/semi-unrelated rant over

A clever ploy - People who are bored at work can now get addicted and meet other people stuck at work.

Great...

Dear developers...stop adding stupid "community" shit that bloats up single player games. I play single player games because I'm an anti-social hermit. At least have a config checkbox that lets me turn all that crap off and never ask to connect again.

I don't understand the rage against GFWL. It's like Steam, unless you've looking at it while playing a game it keeps out the way. Quit your bitchin'.

If your not connected to the net and cant sign in, then the DLC for games you bought, such as Fallout 3 for example, you cant play the DLC you paid for. When I load up DoW2 there is so much crap that GFWL wants to do before it will allow you to play. The system is far too obtrusive.

The idea, apparently, is to gently ease new PC owners and non-gamer types into Live by building it into the games that virtually everyone gets around to trying sooner or later. Register a free GFW Live account, start building a Gamerscore by playing Spider Solitaire, meet a few people online and blammo, you're hooked. So the theory goes, anyway, and it sounds pretty solid to me.
Well, that's similar to how Steam got its start. Just replace "non-gamer types" with "FPS fans".

So save a copy of your games folder to a backup disk. I'm not faffing around with bloody registration or logins every sodding time I want to play Minesweeper.

I should say that I still like the older games off my old 3.1 PC. Chips Challenge FTW, but bastard yeti on Ski Free ftl.

If this means there going to start making minesweeper a fair game, then thats fine with me. honestly, i've been in heaps of situations in minesweeper where the only thing that could win was luck.

Please, please allow people to play without having to work in this shite. GFWL has been a nuisence continually on my system, leading to Dawn of War II to become virtually unplayable because it wouldn't connect.
