Cross-Platform play leading to a new golden age of PC gaming? Maybe if my idea of a golden age involved magnificent structures built from the stacked corpses of easily defeated console gamers.

Shadowrun itself was proof enough that this can't work. PC gamers weren't exactly eager to adopt a broken control system just so they could play with thier XBox owning friends on a 'level' playing field, especially when there are so many other FPSs on the market that won't handicap their controls.

But if you went the other way, letting PC gamers use the full potential of M+K, you would see the console players complaining about their inability to keep up with the PC crowd. Again, most would simply jump to an FPS where they would only have to play against other console users.

Also, it certainly didn't help that Shadowrun was a terrible game.

As a 360 owner, I'm glad that PC/360 integration never happened.
I'd probably get my arse kicked a whole lot more.
They could still do it on a level, just make it mandatory for pc'ers to use a joypad if they want to play against consolers, it would be a hell of alot simpler it beats trying to balance/nerf the pc version so both groups can play against each other on a level playing field.

Take a group of PC only gamers and have them use a regular controller and let the console gamers use a mouse and keyboard-explain what how they work and let them get used to it for a half hour then start a match between them. My theory is that the PC gamers using a controller will be trounced and prove that it isn't skill that they have, but a rediculously easy way to aim.
This is pretty much the same as saying the American military is only better because they have better guns.

Doesn't matter if you call it skill or input advantage. The simple truth of the matter is that people using KB+M will beat people using controllers. You can achieve a higher level of performance using the PC input devices, and that makes them objectively better for anyone who places importance on performance.

MS absolutely might have nicked cross-platform play on the basis of one test. They'd have to allow KB+M for 360 so console players were not disadvantaged, and then they'd lose the "comfort" aspect of console gaming. They believe, and probably rightfully so, that people would rather use suboptimal input devices rather than cumbersome ones.

and this has a single thing to do with skill? no it has to do with controls, PC users get mouse and keyboard, and console users get a controller..the KB+M is going to win in FPS games every time.
I thought that was exactly what Microsoft said.
I was simply saying to some of the users who would invariable say its a matter of skill.

OK, can we agree that the skill we are talking about is mostly skill at controls? I mean, sure, some shooters also require mental skills of some sort, but in the end, when it's "bullet time", it still comes down to raw skill. (From personal experience: I was a smart but hopeless CS player from 1.0 to about 1.5 - I was almost always at the right place doing the right thing, right until someone bunnyhopped into range and nailed me with a headshot on the fly.)

And it will only stay rumor because Microsoft wouldn't want gamers to go back to the KING OF GAMING DEVICES: THE PC!!!! Dun dun dunnnn!!!

Just because they can't do shooters due to the PCs huge advantages, doesn't mean other games wouldn't be possible. The PS3's doin' it. Hell there were even some cross platform PC/360 games that were supposed to come out... Champions Online, you huge cock tease!

Well thats a hit to my hopes to ever play Huxley (a key feature being PC and Xbox cross play)
As for that...other bit...yay for fanning the flames.
Even if it actually is true that keyboard is better in efficiancy, its not better in comfort. Atleast I can hold my controller comforabtly under my blanket.

Why do I have the sudden image that the "best console players" were people that claimed that they were the best. You know! Like every average player claiming that he's a master.

Note* Don't pretend that you haven't met that gamer.

2nd Note* It's always "fun" to see developpers participate in flame wars.

Hmm... funnily enough, when I played Shadowrun, I'm nowhere near the best 360 gamer... yet I could match the PC gamers move for move... I saw no advantage they had that I couldn't counter with ease.
But what do I know, I'm just a mediocre gamer, not one of the experts at Microsoft.
Still, could have been interesting to have more cross-platform play, even if it was just an added playlist option, so you can choose whether or not to play cross-platform...
Because they forced the PC reticule to wobble, there was horrible mouse lag and the console version included auto aim. They had to force broken controls on the PC crowd just to make a level field. No wonder nobody played.

Mine certainly had no auto-aim, I can tell you that much >.> I tend to disable it on games, as it just gets me killed, or ruins the games in other ways >.>
*Hates auto-aim for the amount of times it gets her killed in games*

Flight sims might be good I play eternal silence which is part FPS part classic flightsim and there are people who actually have a k + m and a game pad and they just switch as they enter or exit a ship (the switch does leave them vulnerable for a second though)

That would be an interesting cross platform game

Also how competitive are the newest round of motion controls like wii motion+ and move?

"Because of the lack of 'pixel-accuracy' with the Xbox 360 analog thumbstick, the designers have included an aim-assisting technology, which basically interpolates the player's movement and causes the reticle to stay over an enemy player like a weak magnet. In addition, FASA has implemented a feature which causes the cross-hair to expand during quick movements, thus lowering the player's accuracy, making it impossible to quickly turn and maintain accuracy, reducing the potential advantage of playing with a mouse.[7][8] PC players, who have a more sensitive control scheme, are able to turn significantly faster than their controller-using counterparts and would have gained an unfair advantage."

That is utter bullshit i agree that both sides have there advantages over each other but me and my clan played shadowrun for a while and neither pc or 360 gamers had the edge. The real thing that i think that killed it was when you had pc gamers and 360 gamers on the same server the lag was crazy.

Would love to see it get tried in the future but when the technology worked properly.

Also could you really see Microsoft droppping consoles to support the mess that is games for windows.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun_%282007_video_game%29
Please read about the game differences they put into to level the playing field for the 360.
So they added auto aim to the 360 controls we knew that and it made sence as that was what everybody worried about overpowering the pc players. But i could go into a list on why consoles players have the advanatage over pc players and also the over way around but thats for enough time.As i still can nott see the reason why they canceled 360 and Pc cross network games as it was "unbalanced" for the console players.

I call shenanigans. I think the "reliable sources" he's citing are the voices in his head, reinforcing what is obviously his greatest wish: His favorite console, the only one he supports, being shown to be superior to the ones he hates.
