So everyone loves/looks forward to the God of War and Team ICO collections, but an updated Halo is too soon, and a money-grab? Is there something I'm not getting?
I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Fall of Reach is the one that really got the Halo novelizations off the ground as descent scifi. Nylund is a good writer with a good grasp on the Halo universe. Dietz was a hack who wouldn't know good narrative if it came up and smacked him in the face.A Curious Fellow said:It's better written than Fall of Reach was.sir.rutthed said:This is a terrible idea. Why the Hell would they remake the best game in the franchise so soon? Why not remake Halo 2? I think we can all agree it sucked donkey balls.
Now, I haven't read many novelizations aside from Halo, but the novelization for Halo CE stands out in my mind as one of the worst pieces of literature I've ever read in my life. The further away from that cesspool of glorified fanfic, the better.A Curious Fellow said:I'd like to see the unincluded Covenant races find niches in Combat Evolved's campaign. I'd also be happy if they replaced the Library level with the concurrently unfolding events at Major Silva's Alpha Base invasion which was gone into in depth in the novelization of Combat Evolved.
I thought the God of War collections were too soon too if that helps. Team ICO's games are sufficiently "indie" enough that a collection release after a game like Shadow of the Collossus reaches 'cult following' status makes sense.SilentHunter7 said:So everyone loves/looks forward to the God of War and Team ICO collections, but an updated Halo is too soon, and a money-grab? You make a valid point.Amnestic said:Whereas the GoW and ICO stuff were updated releases by the same studios, 343 is separate to Bungie.
And with further follow-up, I found the same item debunked here on the Escapist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104707-No-HD-Halo-For-Now-Says-Microsoft].Anton P. So I wouldn't hold my breath in anticipation for Halo HD...
Hey, after watching Sony pay to re-release PS2 games that aren't even as old as Halo without any sort of upgrades over and over again, a remake of a 10 year old game doesn't sound so bad. At least 343 will be doing more work than pressing the upscale button and adding trophy support.John Funk said:On the one hand, a ten-year-old game does seem a bit too recent to remake - especially given how fondly the original is remembered by millions of gamers.
That was my first thought as well. "They need to do something with The Library, that level was awful."John Funk said:I'd be down with a remake ... as long as they fixed "The Library." Sweet baby Jesus, did I ever hate that level.
HD Halo and Halo remake aren't quite the same thing.Anton P. With the jump to HD this generation, it makes sense to upgrade the games from the previous one... assuming they're doing it at a reasonable price point. I think the original Xbox game goes for $20 on XBL, so I can see them adding about $10 to that. If they try to release it as a $60 game, then that's a naked money grab. I would like to see them do a Halo 1 & 2 pack for the 360... and I'm not even a Halo fan. I think a series as new and popular as this one *should* be available for new fans without dealing with some half-ass backwards compatability.Amnestic said:I thought the God of War collections were too soon too if that helps. But it's not just that. Whereas the GoW and ICO stuff were updated releases by the same studios, 343 is separate to Bungie. It's hardly shocking that some people want to see where *they're* going to take the Halo series rather than merely rehashing Halo: CE.
Though if Anton P. Nym's stuff is accurate (and I'm too lazy to check, and thus will assume it is) then we have nothing to worry about anyway.
Except it's with the Reach engine, which means it wouldn't be "Halo 1" but "Halo Reach with different weapons."Covarr said:Nobody complained when the first three Super Mario Bros games were remade in All-Stars merely eight years after the SMB and only five years after SMB3. Nobody complained when Super Mario 64 was remade for the DS eight years later. Castlevania: SotN was remade for the PSP just about exactly ten years later. People complained when Sonic Adventure was remade for the gamecube, but only because the remake was crappy and buggy.
Really, some people will complain about anything. I, for one, support this decision. I'm sure console owners would love to have online in Halo 1 without needing the PC version.
P.S. Thanks
