Rumor: Natal is Actually Next Xbox

Yeah I can't see this at all.

I could see them possibly doing a new pack with the xbox arcade and natal or something along those lines but not a new xbox. Maybe even could see a slim XBox or something packaged with it but if they add a Blu-Ray drive or something along those lines they would also have to boost the price of the console plus the boost in price from the actual natal peripherals. It would not be the most marketing savvy move considering they know how many people out there are already complaining about the ps3's price.

EDIT: Also on the thought of adding an HD Drive or something along those lines would be a horrible idea. What would publishing companies have to produce both the large format and the dvd format for games and then they would have to make sure that all customers new which ones they had to buy. It would be the same as when companies first started packaging games on DVD's wouldn't believe how many people without DVD drives bought dvd's instead of the cd based install medium.

I can see a package deal but not much else.

Speculation is just that, speculation. I could say Natal is going to become Skynet. Doesn't make it true. It looks awesome regardless what it is.

I can't find that video anymore, a guy from microsoft doing a demo of natal on a TV show, and he said that you just plug it onto your xbox and it will work.
this rumor is bullshit!

It would actually be a really good PR plan for them to start these rumors themselves:
Treat it like the 360s rebirth.
That would be the best plan to snag people who were thinking about getting a wii but didn't think it was practical and gamers like me who didn't buy a 360 because of the plague of the rrod.
Considering the market they've already saturated they need a rebirth like that to keep the 360 relevant. They'll probably spread the rumor and release the natal with new un-red-ringable 360; if we're lucky.

I'm assuming that if Natal would be doing something for FPS's then they would probably offer a cheap plastic looking set of guns with maybe a gun belt but I wouldn't pay for that when I'm comfortable using the controller. There might be a whole new set of gestures you would have to memorize in order to play half as good at FPS's if your using the camera than you would with a controller. If Project Natal is going to be a new console instead of an accessory then it's sales will be horrible.

I believe in order for Project Natal to be effective it should also give the option for different styles of gameplay like the Wii with its different controller options but in the case of Project Natal you should either choose between "camera play" which would probably fall into my gestures for FPS's theory or "controller play" which would probably give a temporary shutdown of the camera till you finish playing and decide to exit whichever FPS game your playing. I also don't want to have a digital friend because it seems really creepy...like Haley Joel Osmond and that robot toy bear in A.I. type of creepy.

I can't see Microsoft trying to introduce a new storage medium (a la HD DVD) with Natal. With as much backing as Sony has for its format (not to mention all the other movie studios that are publishing on it), I doubt that Microsoft would be foolish enough to try to upstage Blu Ray while it's still on the rise.

Nah. Don't see it happening. Too early, and not nearly as big a premise as the 360 was.

This rumor is just a response to some peoples' disappointment that the Natal launch implies no new Xbox system until 2015.
the thing is that m$ has been known to pull dick moves like this in the past, i've said a few times they're going to come out with a new system at one point and well before the ps4 does

at the least it will be an xbox with a bigger media storage device, ie blu-ray, and that's to store some of the natal stuff because it may or may not need more storage space on the disc and therefore further limit the size of the game so it can fit on a dvd-9 disc

honestly I don't really care if they make a new console for Natal.. for one they'd probably just shoot themselves in the foot if they did, the technology is under a lot of scrutiny and even the casual audience are clever enough to see the "Mii too" way of what Microsoft/Sony are doing... whether that'll stop them or not, however, I don't really know.

This entire thing is being treated like news and fact ("Not surprising. That's because Natal is going to be a new console." "Yes, there will be a new Xbox console next fall."), when it's actually unfounded speculation that has a certain "A bloke in a pub told me..." quality to it.

Some hard evidence is required before I'm going to believe it, rather than just some guy on the internet posting a speculative rumour as fact.

It seems to me like the point is moot, in a sense. The way that hardware seems to be going is incremental changes and repackaging then large scale platform introductions. It would be natural for Natal to be a mesh of the two types. Microsoft strongly implies in several places that Natal will be sold both as a stand alone accessory as well as bundled with (probably upgraded) XBox 360s. Perhaps these upgraded 360s will also include mainboard and video hardware upgrades, memory upgrades, or all sorts of other changes that might make it called a new platform, by yesterday's standards. But I bet you it will be backwards compatible, to the point of not really being "backwards." It will still be an XBox 360. That comes with Natal.

All that being said, Natal has the power to supersede the native (original) XBox interface. But this wouldn't be the first time Microsoft has done that; as a shining example, XBox Live is doing excellently.

Blue screen of death, red ring of death; I`ve come to expect a certain quality from any microsoft made product. I don`t know why more storage space is such an issue. Developers have enough trouble with making the next "Generic Game n+1", wiping their ass, let alone fill up a blueray or HdDvD.

As for consols; nintendo has done a good job with the DS. Releasing the fat ds, lite, and the the sexy dsi. For the wii`s shortcomings of not having a lan slot, only having 512 MB internal storage and the inability to play DVD`s for what ever reason; i`ve been been hoping for a wii^2. Or "wii-wii" as i pray they call it. Also Sony released the ps2 slim right at the end of it`s life, i wish they would do something similar for the ps3 (and much sooner). I would love to have one for games and movies, but i don`t want something that looks like a Prius took a crap in my living room....

Exactly. It's a rumor - an interesting rumor, sure, but one without any evidence to back it up. And I think that came across well in the post.

I don't think it's the next Xbox. It would infuriate too many people. As of now, Natal is still an overpriced EyeToy to me.
