Looks like the PS4 is going to win the next generation if this is true. It's certainly what I'm buying instead. Alternatively, I might buy a gaming PC.
you may as well add the PS Vita to the list...Colt47 said:You know what this rumor tells me? Sony is going to feel the love again! They deserve something after all of the events they had to deal with in the PS3 generation of consoles, especially the PSP, PSP Go!, and now possibly the Vita (though the Vita still looks like it can make a comeback as it's getting some good games over the next few months).
If these rumors come to pass, it's certainly Sony's game to fuck up. Something as simple as an extremely poor launch line-up, such as they've had for the Vita, PsP and PS3 would have us all scratching our heads and wondering how the monstrosity of a next-box could beat out the ps4 in hardware sales.Colt47 said:You know what this rumor tells me? Well congratulations! I hope you're enjoying your connected life of privilege and urban internet!Fasckira said:Not phased by the always online requirement; I live in a 1st world country with a reliable always-on internet connection. Then don't buy from Steam!Britisheagle said:And so begin the "I need a PC" messages. Steam requires you to be always online, it does work offline, yes, but barely.
Yes, it looks like it might be a Nintendo/Sony competition again, with a 3rd company (This time Microsoft) in a very distant third. Unlike the N64 vs. PS1 however, I have a feeling the WiiU's probably gonna keep the lead on the PS4, at least for a majority of it's life span.Colt47 said:You know what this rumor tells me? I don't always buy from Steam. In fact Shogun was bought as a hard copy that REQUIRED an online connection and Steam. Same as when I bought Company of Heroes years ago.Entitled said:Then don't buy from Steam!Britisheagle said:And so begin the "I need a PC" messages. Wonders of PC gaming: you are not obliged to accept a single specific first-party publisher's measures. Some publishers might be more influential than others, sure, but there is always a way for playing outside the system.
First of all, that's a crazy price point. Seconldy, 300 bucks a "subscription based" version? ...I...Don't know what that means, but it makes me think that you'll need to pay a monthly or yearly fee for something, making the 300 dollar one a bad investment...The Xbox 720/Durango/Next-Gen Xbox will launch in November of this year, and set you back $500 for the standard edition, or $300 for a "subscription based" model, claims noted Microsoft insider Paul Thurrott
WhoawhoawhoawhoaWHOAAAAAAAAAA THERE SPARKY.Thurott claims the system's notes specifically state that the new console "must be Internet-connected to use." The console reportedly stops functioning if its internet connection is dropped for more than three minutes.
I....You don't know what it means? the wording is vague? Didn't he just say the console shuts down if it's not connected to the internet?"But is that a bad thing?" What The Tech host Andrew Zarian asks Thurrott regarding the always-online requirement. "I don't know," he replies, "because I don't know what it means."
And the icing on the cake...because the next-gen Xbox will not be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games
