Rumor: Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia Collections Coming for PS3

Online retailers may have revealed Ubisoft's plans to delve into its back catalogue and release some PS2 classics for the PS3.

Listings [http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http://www.amazon.fr/UBI-Soft-Splinter-cell-trilogie/dp/B003YB6D30] discovered on the French Amazon site seem to indicate that Ubisoft plans to release collections of the Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell PS2 games for the PlayStation 3.

The listings have almost no details aside from platform and format, but refer to Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell trilogies, suggesting that they will contain the much loved Sands of Time games, and the first three Splinter Cell games. The Splinter Cell listing seems to have been removed, but the Prince of Persia listing [http://www.amazon.fr/UBI-Soft-Prince-persia-trilogy/dp/B003VMCLU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1281352440&sr=8-1] is still up, and has a release date of November 2nd attached.

Obviously, much of this is just speculation and shouldn't be considered conclusive proof that the collections are coming, but Sony did say back in June [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101731-Sony-Working-on-More-HD-PS2-Collections] that there were more PS2 collections on the way. While it was never expressly said that there were plans for third-party collections, there's no reason why publishers like Ubisoft can't follow Sony's lead and breathe new life into older titles. The gamescom 2010 show just around the corner, so we may find out more information on this very soon.

Any gamer worth their salt still has their copy of The Sands of Time and Splinter Cell.

This is stupid, and by the looks of it, people are falling into the marketing ploy. They're going to re-release a game, for no reason, other than slightly better graphics? Thats bullshit, have they seriously ran out of ideas for games? No way in hell will I pay for this.

I only have a 360... Dangit!

The Sands of Time trilogy is my all-time favourite! Perhaps if I ever get a PS3, I'll buy this. But for now I'll wait for a 360 version.

Hmm... it looks like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon after God of War... The only ones of these I'm looking forward to are the Sly Cooper HD collection (because it's Sly Cooper and if you disagree you're wrong... that's how the internet works) and the Shadow of the Colossus/Ico HD collection (if it even exists.)

Now, who kind of wants a Twisted Metal HD collection as well?

I wouldn't really say it's a ploy or for no good reason, It's hard enough trying to find the trilogy instores also those who missed out on them on the previous consoles get a chance to play them

I see no problem in rereleasing good games ^^

Sounds like a good idea but i aggree that it would be better if it wasn't PS3 exclusive. Everyone should have the joy of reliving the classics, especially me who has only played Warrior Within out of all the games that would be included in both collections put together.
You've only played warrior within? o_O

Dear god man D: Buy a cheap PS2 and pick up Sands of Time and Two Thrones and scrub memories of Warrior Within from your brain!

Oh hell yes. I'd love to replay the SoT trilogy on a console -- I played them all on my PC back then.

And @slutmonkey8: wow... you only played the worst of the 3? Ouch. That'd be like only having Phantom Menace or Clown Wars as your Star Wars experience.

Updated graphics, trophy support, a whole trilogy of games on one disk, and possible other features depending on the developers handling it (behind the scenes stuff).

I've said it before, the main reason I believe these "Collections" things are coming out is because the PS2 is not forever. The PS2 is on it's last legs, going for 12 years of marketing. That's a fuck-of-a-lot for any electronic, let alone a console. Eventually, though, the PS2 is going to be discontinued and with that the games will go away aswell. I see this as more of a preparing for the inevitable, as well as beefing up the franchises of yester-year.

Then dont, problem solved. There are plenty of people who actually enjoy these games and would re-buy them because they are that good.

I can't wait to relive the last good Splinter Cell games in glorious HD while Ubisoft makes the series worse with each installment.

Me included. Why? because I never actually bought any of the Sands of Time games. I have played them all several times through renting and borrowing from mates, but don't own any of them. Plus I just got a PS3, this really could not have gone better for me. Besides I got GoW collection and I already had the originals, it was totally worth it (especially since I'm kind of a trophy whore).
