Alright, alright first post and it's about RuneScape.
Well, I haven't played it mainly because I never thought it would be worth my time, I recently went to the site. It looks, like I might actually have fun playing it.

Am I wrong?

Hell, it is possible to have fun playing it. Almost any game is.
Just hope that you run into the right people on there.
Maybe you should give it a go.
Oh, and welcome to the Escapist, I hope you enjoy your time here.

It depends.
Its a functioning game, with a lot of individual skills to grind if that's your thing, but the community...
Well, to be blunt, it isn't very good. I'd suggest Mabinogi over it, if you like the game style. I just have never heard anyone, of all the people who I know spent a lot of time on the game, to feel like it was really worthwhile. At least, as far as MMORPGs go.
I can't speak from personal experience with the game; I got so bored with it, I couldn't take it.
This was a long time ago, though; according to its Wiki, it would fall under, "Runescape classic."

I used to play Mabinogi! I still do actually. I was really into because the community was heavily involved in the Role-Playing mode, and that's what I enjoy most. I just got my new computer I'll have to re-download that.

and thank you very much for the welcome. :)

Look, if you have have HAVE to play a MMO, just spend the 15 bucks, and try WoW for a month, i hate the fact im pushing this game on people, but it will hold you over untel Old Republic.

It's actually a very good game, I've played it alot and so now have got a bit bored of it, but there's a million and one things to do, the quests are actually pretty detailed, no "Kill 10 Boars" thing, and making money is a real challenge, like life actually.

Only bad thing is the combat, which is pretty boring.

They've changed it to make it new and swanky and crap. But it's still the same old steaming pile of shit it ever was.

I used to play that game a lot and I loved nearly every second of it. But about a year ago I just got fed up with all the changes. They ruined the game and I don't even like it anymore. I wouldn't go near it if I were you.

That game is digital crack. It swallowed up a lot of my time when I was younger, I'm embarrassed to say. I bite my thumb at it - massive waste of time, but the recent technological advancements do make it more and more playable.

I have to say, while Runescape looks like utter garbage, its gameplay mechanics are actually physically sound. I haven't logged in in 2 years or so by now, but judging from what I've heard, they have only been improving the game since then. One thing that struck me about Runescape is that the quests were almost all well written, or at the very least, somewhat unique. I don't actually remember ever doing more than a few "kill x of x" quests. before I stopped playing, I remember being especially impressed by the newest questlines which formed coherent and interesting stories.

That said, if you actually plan on playing, you might as well become a member within a month of creating a free account, as that's how fast you will run out of content on the free account.

I used to play RuneScape but I really began to hate it once I realized how I was spending my time. The sense of accomplishment just isn't there in comparison to WoW or another pay-to-play MMO. And the community is terrible. I mean, the game just involves leveling stats so that you can level them up higher. Go somewhere, click 50 times, run back to bank, repeat.

Although, I have to admit they have added a ton of new stuff to the game since I last played. It might be worth another chance, but it's still the same game.

I remember enjoying it way back when...

Not sure how well it'd hold up now, but that game ate up more of my time than I'd like to admit.

It's an OK game if you don't have enough money (or your PC specs aren't good enough) to go for other MMOs (WoW being one of the usual suspects here).

However, if you want to play the game, you'll need to become a member. Free player content is extremely limited. You hear things like "Free players can go up to level 99": Yes, they can, but their content will run out far, far before then. Don't go in thinking it's a viable long-time free to play game, as it most certainly is not.

Runescape was the first MMO I ever played. It's a good game, however the game mechanics required alot of grinding. If you should earn money, grind. If you need certain skills to a quest, grind. The grinding takes foooorever... That's one of the reasons I stopped playing Runescape.

You mention the "Go somewhere, click 50 times, run back to the bank, and repeat" That's so god damn boring.

Why not just mess about on the free to play, if you don't like it you've only wasted time.

The community is very harsh 'cos it has alot of 13 year olds playing it but I spent 99.9% of my time alone and loved it.

Theres alot of stuff to grind in the F2P (free to play) but theres alot more in P2P (pay to play) and the members/P2P guys mostly loathe the F2P but like to go there and show off there cool stuff.

I still log on occasionally whenever there's an interesting new update for free users. Besides that, it's pretty boring.
