Russia Considers Crackdown on Violent Games

I'm guessing banning guns would make too much sense. Also violent movies ant TV shows. And obviously violence didn't exist before those things came into existence. What a bunch of idiots.

I think it's easy and wrong to shift the blame on videogames.

That being said, Manhunt's gameplay is so singularly focused on causing violent death and getting a 'nice' view on the carnage, that I really have to wonder, why make such a game? And what kind of person would enjoy playing that?

If I were a Rockstar employee and I'd get assigned to a project like that, I'd request a transfer or hand in my resignation right there. It's below my dignity to play -let alone create- a game like that, and I will have a very low opinion of anyone listing Manhunt as a favorite game.

Oh, so my country has jumped on the "let's do something about violent videogames" bandwagon at last. Yay? I bet our government will handle the issue in an even more backwards and ignorant way than they did in some western countries. Maybe we can even outdo Australia in that regard!

The problem is that many people in the Russian government don't really know what videogames are. There is a certain lack of younger politicians who understand that you can't apply Soviet ways of thinking to the rapidly changing modern world. I bet there's a similar problem in many other countries, actually. People actively trying to get certain videogames banned don't understand them because videogames in their current form are a relatively new medium, and people always act with prejudice against new things they don't understand.

i dint like the game either. i dint even bother to finish it because it was just so blunt and boring and bad to play. even when you had to use stealth, which was a plus, the game it self just had nothing compelling to keep playing.

Why not ban guns rather than digital media? The government licensed him the means to kill 6 people and it's the fault of a game? I don't understand why civilians need guns nowadays anyway.

I have guns because I have land and animals. There are legitimate reasons for people to own guns, banning the guns means only the criminals will have guns.

As well as crazy people with murderous tendencies. People like that kid who recently shot and killed 6 people because a girl rejected his advances. Or that Danish bloke who shot and killed about 40 people, mainly kids!

Owning guns for the sake of owning guns is ridiculous. I bet this guy didn't have land or keep farm animals.

To people who own and use guns responsibly, you sound exactly like the people who want to ban violent video games. That's all.

He is Norwegian and it was 77 he killed.

OT: Scapegoating is easy, so even though it's more attributed to booze and rejection, it's much more convenient to blame the games. Hopefully this doesn't turn out poorly for our Russian gaming friends!
