Well, after that relatively large forum on whether RWBY was actually good, I have a conclusion based on the latest episode: it is a bit of a ripoff with some amusing moments but is otherwise boring for the rest of the show.

This episode actually brings the main antagonist plotline to the forefront and also introduces a new character and a new weapon. Won't say much but will provide two images to give you an idea of what is in it.

Voices are still off and animation bugs are probably present but they are at least having some payoff for the slight amount of buildup with Torchwick and the White Fang.

Still most anime fans will cringe at how it seems to rip off so much from other sources. Other people who are less anime-literate may like it but may be turned off by odd animation and voices

I don't watch much anime except for FMA: Brotherhood and some of Death Note and stuff like that. But I don't think you mean to say cliches. I think you mean to say tropes. There are many tropes in the show. And that's good. But I honestly don't know which things you are referring to so I can't comment farther on that.

And really instead of making a whole new thread for this you could have just commented on the other one because you're basically just saying all the same stuff that everyone else is saying.

I, however, very much enjoy RWBY. It's very entertaining. And surprisingly Michael Jones is a very good VA. I did not know this. The story and world is interesting. The characters are starting to come into their own. And I adore the fighting styles. I really couldn't care less about all the technical things.

Look, it's the first season of a web series. They don't have the largest budget, and they don't have the most experienced people working on it. RvB was a little shaky it's first season too but people still loved it because it was funny, which it is. They seem like they're starting to get into their stride.

No idea who the second person is, but I'm not going to call it a rip off when the guy named after the monkey king has the same weapon as the monkey king.

I like it so far; it's far from perfect and it seems that there was quite a lot more effort put into the pre-release trailers than the actual show, but it shows potential.

Though, I'm a little biased since I'm a big fan of Rooster Teeth.

I was totally on board with this show, and loved it until I saw episode 15. It seemed so poorly done and rushed, and the animation was choppier than normal. I almost couldn't finish the episode I was so disappointed. I think I'm done with RWBY. The first 14 episodes were pretty good, albeit a little awkward. But 15 is more than I could handle.

To those who say the rip off thing, big deal Sun Wukong reference/ tribute has been used a few times in media like Dragonball (Song Goku aka Goku and his weapon has been refenece alot more) and honestly Penny remind me more of that robot character from Tekken (you know who).

As for the episode, I felt it was somewhat anti climated eventhought the action scene was pretty cool (man she is OP, make me wonder how does one fight her during the tournament). Granted I did like the new development like the origin of White Fang and learning abit of Blake past and finally getting to see that woman face in episode 1). Also I was quite dissapointed with Weiss and Blake reconsile (I kind of wanted for Weiss to aplogies abit).

Eager way I am eagerly await for season 2 (I really want to see the upcoming tournament and the villains master plan).

I am a big supporter of RoosterTeeth, and I love when they launch new stuff. That being said, I am pretty much on board with the general feeling of "meh" that seems to be surrounding RWBY. There is nothing overtly bad about RWBY, it is a compilation of little things that turn me off the show.

All of this has been mentioned in a previous thread, but the voice acting is a little weak, the pacing was not great, writing was iffy, to name a few. Like I said, nothing obviously poor, but nothing standout great. I also tend not to be a big fan of Monty's animation stlye, as I find it to totally break my immersion, but that is a personal preference.

That being said, I watched the entirety of the first series to give it a fair chance. I most probably won't go back for Season 2, but I wish them all the best with it.

I will agree that there are some bad parts of the show, I will still defend that it has a lot of potential. All shows are rocky at the start, especially their most infamous show Red vs. Blue. But as the series went on it got better and better and the animation drastically improved. I have no doubt this will be the case with RWBY. They will know how to improve their style after this season.

As for episode 16, these are the episodes when the show really comes alive. The action scenes were awesome, and showed that despite the bugs and quality issues it is still very much a worthwhile show.

I cannot wait to see what they will be bringing out in season 2

The second person is Nu 13 from Blazblue.

If you watch the episode, Penny's weapons (a set of blades that float right next to her) are used in an almost identical fashion to Nu in the games.

Yeah, episode 16 reaffirmed my position that Monty Oum is a good action director, but is poor at everything else that a director is supposed to do. I understand that he's the main creator behind RWBY, but he really needs to step down and let someone else be the lead director.

All the other problems that I mentioned in the previous thread still hold true. Hokey voice acting, animation was poor in all non-action sequences, their faces are still so creepy paper-white that I have a hard time making out their mouths (only the bottom lip is pronounced with a black line), and I still feel like we know nothing about what the fuck they're supposed to be doing. Monty Oum continues to allot chunks of time to the wrong stuff, while only giving out slivers of time to actually interesting events. When you only have about 10 minutes to get your story across, you have to be very careful with what you dwell on.

Well like I said, the other guy was based off of the Monkey King from Odyssey to the West, Sun Wukong (They even have the same names) and if we're going to be accusing people of ripping off other sources, then we also need to accuse Dragon Ball and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West of being rip offs because both of those have main characters that use Sun's staff weapons and in DBZ, the Nimbus was based on it too.

There's a difference between being inspired by something and stealing something. The White trailer was oozing with inspirations from Dark Souls, massive knight, giant Gothic buildings, a spell that involved a character being surrounded by five balls of blue energy before they all get sent at its target and the knight dissolving into white mist as it dies. And as a Dark Souls fan, I actually thought that was awesome. The point is, unless they're copying things scene for scene and having every last thing that happened in that game happen in here, it's not really a rip off. People do stuff like this all the time. It's like the old saying goes "There are around six original stories that the Human race knows. There are just a lot of re-imaginings)

At least watch this one more episode. That way you can at least say you watched the first season.

The Finale has problems.

Most of those problems wouldn't be problems if it weren't the final episode.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't endings happen at the end of something?

Episode 16 of RWBY was a really good "starting point" it should have happened maybe 30 minutes in and not an hour and 40 minutes in. That way they could spend that remaining hour on having a plot.

It ended, and we still don't know why Torchwick wants all the dust, how he became the leader of the White Fang, Why the White Fang follow him or who his handlers are. The ending was a tease.

I'll bet you anything that all of season 2 (Sorry, VOLUME 2) is going to be about the tournament, and in the last 2 episodes Torchwick is going to make another appearance.

I enjoyed it overall. Not the greatest, but fun, and very obvious in its nods to the different anime that served as inspirations (such as the fact that just about everybody has an allusion to mythology, folklore or fairy-tails in their names, designs and concept).

Still trying to figure if Penny's name/design is an inspector gadget riff (leaving aside her combat abilities are pretty much a wholesale reference to Nu-13), or from something else

I would be okay with that. I enjoy the series in roughly the same way I enjoy all other anime - there are a few very specific areas where it shines and in most others it is more or less primetime level.

Since I view fight choreography as one of the places it shines I would really rather just see fight after fight in a tournament and relegate all the other stuff into the brief periods between fights. Haven't seen 16 yet, guess I'll watch it tonight.

Penny and Sun did seem a little on the nose in terms of their fighting abilities, but I liked their personalities.

I wish they'd stop giving Ruby all the good lines though, even if she does seem to have the hardest-working VA.

Lastly, I want more Nora, and not just stuff that involves Ren.

For what it's worth (Which is a lot) Episode 16 has an outstanding fight scene. The best choreography since the Red Trailer.

If "volume" 2 is handled in such a way where every episode (Or so) has it's own fight scene. So we get to see every character fight, and (And this is a big one) The tournament is the overarching plot of the volume that could work and be really cool.
But chances are we're going to see a repeat of Vol 1 where the entire middle of the season pretty much maintains a holding pattern (in the form of a tournament) until the "real plot" shows up again.

That will never happen. Ren is a character Monty Oum (the creator and lead director) created for himself (he's also voiced by him), so it shouldn't come as surprise the Ren would have the most screen time of all the minor characters (well, except Jaune).

Actually, I think Ren may have gotten the least amount of screen time out of all the minor characters (Possible exception of that rabbit fanus). He certainly has gotten the least amount of lines.

Oh I didn't know this was the last episode of the season. I'll give it a watch then, if only for the ability to give my judgement on the show as a whole. Thanks.
