As if they'd take away Liara from my female Shep. I would LET the Reapers destroy Earth if BioWare did that. The question for me now is, who is going to be the gay male character? If it's one of the returning characters from the previous game, I'm going to be annoyed. Same reason I was annoyed when Anders suddenly became gay. I don't like it when characters are rewritten that way, especially if they were interested in Shep only when she was female. Tali being gay I can sort of accept because they hinted at it in Mass Effect 2, but that would be a stretch. Jack too, sense she admitted it, but still. Garrus, Kaiden, Thane, and Jacob? No.
Now, if a new character is gay, I have no problem with that. I did find it odd that no males were gay in Mass Effect 2 after playing Dragon Age Origins.

A new character and one of the potential squadmates in ME3. While it hasn't been said whether he will be gay or not, there does exist a possibility. Also, while Thane, Garrus and Kaiden are confirmed as ME3 characters, Thane is not available as a squadmate and Jacob doesn't appear at all (Along with Samara, Miranda, Grunt and Kasumi).

Jack, Legion, Mordin, Thane and Zaeed are also only listed as "Returning characters" rather than squadmates.

I'm still confused about the cross-species relationships. Does convergent evolution lead to compatible junk on a galactic scale? Has this got something to do with morphogenetic fields?

I don't think that things like this are fair. Homosexual characters can and should act however they want, some may well be passive but not necessarily and more games companies should include more varied LGBT characters. Edited because I was overly harsh, only the idiots saying that homosexuality should be disabled in the menu deserve to be called homophobic.

On topic - the only characters I wanted a relationship with in that game were Kasumi and Tali, the guys just didn't really do anything for me. Garrus is cool I guess but don't really like him that way.

It's good that this is happening, but I don't think that it should mean ALL characters suddenly become bisexual. Sort of like with Aveline, where you can romance her up, but she will brush you off because she has other interests.

I mean, I don't want Garrus to suddenly turn gay for the sake of allowing same sex relations. It just isn't in his character, and it would be a poor copout for him to suddenly point out he's a bisexual.

Well man with Shepard rape-face avatar, it's most likely because BioWare was a little afraid to do something controversial after their partner, Visceral Games, did the whole sin-to-win thing. Or they could have been strapped for time. Either way is speculation, but bare in mind some homosexual dialogue for Shepard and Kaiden is still in ME classic, it just wasn't implemented fully. Maybe now BioWare is taking the extra time to fully flesh out the NPCs so you might have a bit more emotional response when they get brutally murdered in the bad ending because we didn't have the patience for the fucking resource mining minigame.
