How hard is it to use someone's requested pronouns? It's not costing you anything to do.
See I wasn't going to say anything. I noticed. I noticed quite a few people screw it up.
But TBH, Jim ain't here, I in fact doubt Jim will ever be here or care about this thread. As such I'm leaning on, it really don't bloody matter and the people more upset over it are getting offended on other peoples behalves in here over something that in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter that much In the grand scheme of things. I've been referred to as entirely the wrong name before IRL and it's generally not deliberate or a problem unless it happens to be your girlfriend yelling out her exs name not yours during sex. As such I don't think people here are doing it to be mean, they just forgot their pronouns because they are used to them being who they are now.

I would legit go crazy and tie to a national id. One per person, or two per person.
Yup, it's a great idea for target's website to get hacked and for there to be people's social security numbers in there.

Absolutely, mistakes happen, people accidentally throw in the wrong names or titles every now and then. Not a huge deal.

People who say it, get directly told "Hey, they're actually going by <example> now" then continue to use the incorrect forms? That's something different.

I would do a driver's license or a voter ID, hell I will even do a conceal carry permit. Not SS. Also if you want a PS5, and you are willing to risk it, why not it's a free country, and we have institutions to protect against fraud and etc like the CFPB or even just the FBI.

Didn't sony have a "register your psn, 1 ps5 per psn with activity on it" policy and everyone lost their shit at it?

Half of this thread is dissing on ol' Jimbo. Why leave his new gender out of it? I bet it's the result of "good intent" manipulation by the people he hangs out with.

Yes, I remember something like that for the pre-orders, tho that also has some obvious problems, like being shit out luck if you're a new customer trying to get into the Playstation ecosystem, among other things.

Maybe limiting orders by adress could help i.e. one adress = one PS5, perhaps with some kind of timer on it, like a month, so should you want/need another PS5 later on, you can. Tho I doubt this would be foolproof either. Like Gethsemani's example of scalpers using a network of accomplices to buy them for them, tho the time and effort required to organise something like that compared to the ease and speed of a bot might discourage. Or perhaps they could set up a location to have like a 1000 mailboxes or something.

Scalpers would still scalp. Scalpers are notorious for their ability to find people to buy limited merchandise for them. If you get max 2 PS5 per national ID, they'd just hit up poor kids and ask them to buy two PS5s and in return the kids will get a hundred bucks. This is a traditional scalper tactic when limits get placed on number of items per customer, just get a bunch of accomplices to buy for you.

The British Soccer world has long struggled with scalpers selling tickets to the fan and cheering sections of soccer games. They've tried limiting tickets there to members only, tying the tickets to IDs and what not, and yet scalpers find ways to get those coveted tickets and sell them at truly ridiculous prices to people who aren't local fans. These people make a living on staying ahead of regulations meant to stop them and they are awfully good at it.
I would then fine them for doing so.
