Bloodsuckers from STALKER. Invisible, fast, hard-hitting and able to take crazy amounts of damage without dying.

The entire cast of Shadowman.

God, that was a good game.
I completely agree. Especially those things with the meat hooks. the noises they make when they walk around and then attack you was terrifying. i made the mistake of playing Shadowman in the dark on my own and went through the Assylum and Cathedral of Pain. thats was soooo scary.

They tend to remind me of the other Resident Evil creatures that scared the fuck out of me, the Lickers from RE2. One of the first encounters when you're in the interrogation room and it breaks through the window to attack you, almost shit my fucking pants! Then again, I was 11.
Oh man, the interrogation room thing terrified me to the point I had to run like hell to the nearest typewriter, save, then come back to carry on playing during the daylight. The best part was at the time I first reached that encounter, I was playing drunk with a few friends watching. I've never managed to recreate a scenario where four 17 year old guys are sat simultaneously screaming in terror at the TV.

The alien fish thing from Half Life. Something about it just scares the crap out of me everytime I go near it's "home" in black mesa.

The Chainsaw Guy from RE4.

"Fuck, it's him. Shit, he's getting closer, no, no, shoot him, in the head, agh, FUCK!"

Great retrospective of that scene. Also, the poison headcrabs. Those little bastards love biting you at the face.

Watchers from FEAR. The guys that cloaked and could stick to walls. There weren't a lot of them, but they came out of nowhere and were fast as hell.

Oh yeah... seeing their eyes in the hospital wasn't a pleasant experience... I also got a slight aversion towards fast zombies...

Scissorman from Clock Tower First Fear and Clock Tower for the PSX. Talk about panic when you'r a frail little girl who can only run from a disfigured little boy with big bad ass scissors in a lonely big mansion in the middle of the night while tripping over you'r dead friends. That is horror!

More props to Pyramid Head, Regenerators, Alma from FEAR, and every one of those freaking lunatics from Condemned.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet: ReDeads from Ocarina of Time. I've had two nightmares featuring them since I first encountered them years ago.

The 1st time a monster popped out in the Suffering, I jumped about 3 feet in the air and my wife fell off the couch. The little Girl from Fear, and the black spots on the floor that suck you down from Extraction Point.
I don't think it's so much the monster as the eviroment. In the GOOD horror games they set you up, the quiet sounds, the dark, it's quiet, too quiet, you know it's comming, you tense up, your heartrate climbs, and then WHAM, out it pops or scuttles, and suddenly it's in your face! You jump and a ICE COLD shot of adrealine hits your heart, you have to KILL IT AND KILL NOW! And when you do God do you feel ALIVE>

Salvador's Right Hand from RE:4. Running around a claustrophobic industrial environment when a eight-feet-tall invincible lobster thing is chasing you? Not fun times.

I was just too damn scared to go fight the Regenerators.

Thank you ever so much! I was hoping that nobody else would have to hear such terrible language! Now we can be safe.

When I was 6 I was terrified by the eel from Super Mario 64. I always thought that it was gonna swim up and eat me.

As for enemies that actually creep me out now, the wall shadows from ocarina of time. they just drop down from nowhere and kill u.

Red Arremer from Super Ghouls N' Ghosts. They could just cut right through you. A little retro, perhaps, but if you beat one of those things, it was either luck or homing arrows. Probably arrows.

Yes, Bloodsuckers! One of my most hated enemies ever with their glowing eyes watching me from a distance...
