Probably have to say things that crawl...that shouldn't crawl, mainly humanoid things as humans shouldn't crawl like they do in horror. The freaky crawling things in FEAR 2 are an example.

Most games don't really scare me, but there were a great many times where Dead Space fucking startled me. Usually when I got jumped on from behind by something I didn't even know was there. Also, just about any section with this guy in it.

Speaking of Dead Space. The first Dead Space demo, it ended abruptly when you opened a door and a hulking necro grabbed you and ripped you in half. That scared me. You had used that door before, I thought it was safe and there was no indication the demo was to be over. Freaky.
A brute, right? They never bothered me much. With the first three you could just shoot them in the shoulders until their arms came off. Even the enhanced brutes just needed a blast of stasis followed by some quick shots to the back. The ones that usually bother me are the ones which move fast and swarm you, or are small and difficult to hit.

Those... THINGS from jsut about the entire Penumbra series.

Whether not it be their descendants - the Mr. Shambles, or the Sir ClawHand from Amneisa, or those f*cking Zombies from Overture, they always scare the shit out of me....

When I first played Undying, 10 years ago, they were the scariest enemies I had ever seen. Now, 10 years later, they still make me nervous whenever I hear their sounds.

Yeah but this was a scripted even, It just killed you and ended the demo. So it was freaky and then over. You didnt fight it. I found the actual games less scary then that. Upgraded linegun = no kneecaps in the room.

Cerberus (Cerberi?) from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. At night, if one of those things pounces on you...holy shite. The fact that it takes insane amounts of ammo even from the Armsel is enough to make me actively hunt down the ones that I know about with heavy weapons, just so I can travel more lightly for a a day or two in-game knowing I won't be getting jumped by one if I walk through a certain area.

Honestly? The T-Rex head from Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis. Granted, now it doesnt have the same effect....but as a kid, woah. I'll never forget creeping through the power station, fighting raptors, crawling through vents..when right when I think I'm near the end...BAM. Biggest monster of the game. The level still creeps me out.

Well, that beats the hell out of usual demo job of cutting to the game logo after the tutorial level.
I never upgraded the line gun. Except for a couple of times where I was badly surrounded, I only ever used the plasma cutter. In fact, If I'd discovered earlier that the plasma cutter's alternate fire mode didn't use up extra ammo and just changed the angle of its regular shot, I might have just used that on those occasions and gotten the One Gun achievement.

I totally forgot about that! That game was probably the first to really scare me. Good call.

Fleshpounds are scary as shit. The one time you need words to tell your team that something big just showed up, and you won't be able to find them. All get out is "Oh, it's aaaaaaaa...uhhhh...THAT FUCKER!"

That one momment in Ao Oni, where you only have one party member, and you go into the party inventory, and instead of seeing a picture of you and your friend, you see this scary mother fucker with the hair-do of your one party member.

The Hunter from Dead Space and the Ubermorph from the sequel (same thing, really). It doesn't matter how much heavy ordinance you have, it's not gonna do much more than slow those fuckers down, which makes them the one thing in both games that brings them into actual "survival horror" territory outside of putting the games on their hardest difficulty settings. Also, while in-game they're not that scary, the whole concept of the Markers scares the shit out of me, just because I know they'd probably break me long before any necromorphs showed up.

Also, the dog monsters from Resident Evil 4 really freaked me out, especially since the first time you met them is right after that fight with the giant where you get some help from a certain friendly canine if you freed it from a trap earlier. Basically, my whole thought process upon seeing the monster dogs in the distance was "hey, is that the dog that just helped me waiting to greet me? Wait, what's wrong with his hea- OHMYGODFUCKGETITOFFME!!!" And then there was a second one [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ItGotWorse], so, yeah. D:

Gonna have to agree with the already mentioned portions of STALKER SoC and add in the part near the Scientist's bunker where the X16 Lab is located in that zombie and snork infested area above it. The atmosphere of the STALKER games never fails.
