I just got sent home from school for wearing trousers that were just not black enough to meet the schools expectations. I'm in the final year at my school, and everyone is meant to set a 'good example' to the younger years by dressing and acting properly. So why the fuck single me out!? I don't smoke or vandalise property, I don't teach younger years to disrespect staff or any shit like that! I had my damn tie on! There are people that show up to school in bloody shellsuits! The headteacher and a teacher I thought I was on good terms with pulled me aside and threatened to expel me for not wearing 'correct school uniform'. Its bullshit!

Any comments, experiences?

Is it a private school ? they tend to be very very picky about this stuff.A couple of years back my sister was sent home from school (Catholic private school) because her skirt wasn't in fact 1 inch below the knee, it was only a quarter-inch below the knee (it's not like it was a freaking miniskirt or something)She actually had to throw out that skirt, since she couldn't wear it ever, she let my mother do the adjustments to her school clothes afterwards hehe...

well at our school my head has now banned all skirts for the lower years (ie. everyone not in sixth form) whilst this doesn't affect me at all (in sixth form now and a guy) it still pisses me off, especialy as as few as about 6 or 7 years ago girls weren't allowed to wear trousers, so he's just done a complete about turn!

I've had a uniform encounter at school.
Being in Year 12, we get Leavers Jackets. Since we were getting these, and they cost $120, I was going to shell out more to buy a normal school jumper. Unfortunately the jackets took awhile to get here and it got freezing cold. So I thought I could just wear a normal jumper for the week until they arived.

WRONG!

English teacher sent me up to the front office where they piss farted around before deciding to take it off me. For one it was raining and two we were doing an assesment that period so I missed a good 10 minutes and was freezing during the whole thing and the Chemistry test the period after.

I'd never not worn uniform before but they wouldn't give me the benefit of the doubt. I know why they want us to wear a uniform but come on.

We have an actual uniform, with like a tie and stuff.

Dress codes/policies are stupid (what you have).
The idea is that it breeds conformity. Most trades do have a uniform of sorts, whether it's builders in their helmets and high-vis jackets, McDonalds workers in their outfits, or office workers in suits and ties.

School is just training for work, after all; the real lessons you're supposed to learn at school are obeying those with authority over you, being on time, working hard etc. The stuff they actually teach you in your lessons is largely useless, it's the subconscious lessons that are meant to stick with you.

Once you've left school you'll realise teachers enjoy their position of power a bit too much.

In the adult sphere they are nobodies but to students they are the alpha and omega so sometimes they assert their authority in daft and unnecessary ways like the case with the OPs trousers.

Think nothing of it man.

exact same thing happened to a friend of mine.
You'd think that they'd put the students interests first.

Slightly not the right black? that's just sad.. I find that teachers these days are getting a lot nicer but when taught by other bitchy teachers they just learn that way and become selfless pricks. The teachers shouldn't have gotten up you for that kind of thing. It's bullshit I say.

That's true. I thought my Uncle Tommy was wearing black socks, but when I looked at them closely, they were just very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very dark blue.

Yea uniform rules can be irritating but meh, its part and parcel of going to school along with unfairness, bullies and spiking your friends Korma with really really hot chilli sauce.

My old school uniform was quite relaxed, just black trousers, school t-shirt and sweatshirt, no blazer or tie. I even got away with wearing trainers for a whole year because they were dark enough not to show.
Just finished sixthform, and apparently my sixthform had the most relaxed dress code in the county, wear what you want within reason. We were banned form wearing shorts in the summer, but enough of us ignored that rule until it was dropped.

Heard about that in the papers. I can see where he's coming from, some girls pretty much wore belts at my school and it was not a pretty sight.

The reason they single you out instead of the smokers and vandalizers is because they understand that they have control over you. Not that its a bad thing. Its probably just that you dont feel the need to rebel since its just school and you dont wanna start anything that could go over badly. The point is that since they dont want to put in the effort to reform the kids who are the real problem, they prey on the kids that are actually decent human beings and use you as an example for the rest of the kids.

The amazing thing is that they really think that the best way to solve the problems of school today is to take the only people who actually respect who the teachers are and what they do and punish them for any little thing they can; because they want to show kids that behaving badly will result in punishment. In reality, its not that bad deeds get punished. Its mistakes by good kids get punished, and the kids who are bad all the time get along fine. School disgusts me sometimes.

My bad story is about my lab partner. He was a senior and i was a junior. The whole year he did nothing but constantly interrupt lessons and talk during work time. He didnt help with labs, or with book work. He just made problems for the people who actually wanted to learn something while they were in school. So by the end of the year hes best friends with the teacher and I, who was nice and respectful the whole time, dont even get my name remembered. Yeah, school sucks. Im just glad this is gonna be my last year.

Maybe college will be different?

Just turn up in an actual Nazi uniform and show 'em who's boss.
Nah kidding, bitchy teachers you have. They succeeded in taking away your individuality, they don't need to waste your time and money getting a new uniform too

There are aa fair number of girls at my school who dont wear skirts at all. Just walk around in stockings and a shirt.
Its not as enjoyable as you might think...

Yeah. Particullarly given that a lot of them are like 13, and im in my final year now.

I dont understand how they dont freeze. I wear 2 jumpers, a shirt, long pants, and a singlet, and im still really cold. These tiny girls walk around in a thin layer of lace (i think, dont actually know what stockings are made of), and armless shirts.

My school uniform was actually quite lax. As long as we had a white shirt and black trousers we could wear pretty much whatever. We didn't even have to wear shoes, we could wear trainers, sandals etc. I hear thats going to change though. When I attended sixth form you could wear whatever you wanted as well (within reason).

They cant expel you for not wearing black enough trousers. Especially when there are more serious offenders wearing the likes of shell suits.

Simple solution, very politely and firmly with a hint of vindictive bastard to your tone. State you will inform the press of their stupidity and promptly sue them for it.
