This just came up in an other thread (by me) so I thought I'd post it as a general question.

What made school for you?

As a 21 year old, I miss school with every fibre of my being. Here are some reasons it was the best thing ever.

1. Pretty much get away with murder.
2. Lots of friends about.
3. If you had friends that is...
4. Girls, girls, girls.
5. Sports, or more specifically team sports... (how many of you can get a proper football match on without being in a team?
6. I guess I should say guy's, guy's, guy's if you are such way inclined.
7. Smoking in the toilets/behind bike shed.

Please add to this list...

Don't just make this a list thread though, I wanna hear some reasons... Please.

EDIT: It doesn't matter if it was your first school, high school, college or university...

All had their reasons for being great...

And all had there reasons for being bad, lets talk about those too.

Playing sports, getting laid all the time, making fun of nerds, nothing not to miss for me! One hell of a time indeed.

High School was made for some.

My High School experiences are inextricably tied to my childhood which was very... not good.

I never tried to 'get away with murder', as I believed in being "good" for the sake of goodness.

Girls turned suicidal, both of em. Didn't follow through, though fortunately (unfortunately?).

Sports were fun, the people on the team were not.

Never smoked on the principle that it addicts those foolish enough to pick up the habit.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not here to cast disdain on those who enjoyed their high school experience, but it wasn't some nickelodeon faux-teen-drama show realized.

Fuck school. Getting up at 5 AM, eating shitty food, being miserable in what amounted to sheds with no A/C...no thanks.

Virtual school, on the other hand...
Agreed 100%

Ugh. I guess it depends.

If by school you meant highschool, or preparatory school, then I'm glad to see at least there are people who did enjoy theirs, but honestly speaking, I didn't enjoy mine, and was just glad to finish it and get started with uni. Now, that I did enjoy.

Highschool was just kind of...there.

Ah come on, it wasn't all that bad...

Besides, on paper, school to me appears to be awesome. Sure some lesson's sucked, but if you liked learning then that's a good thing.

If you liked escaping from detention (my favourite) then this teaches you all you need to get away from the cops if need be...

There's something for everyone at school.

School was good mainly because of the friends I had, (which I'm still good friends with to this day, even in my forth year of uni). Uni whips school in terms of fun though, especially as you can do whatever you want to.

Srsly dood.
(ps this is to illustrate that even if you love something it has flaws. the internets' flaw is l33t speek and probably also the chans.)
Oh, I'm fully aware of its flaws, but the fact that I can go to school, watch anime, and converse with intelligent individuals anytime I want makes the flaws seem insignificant.

Physically stuck in a single location working for 9-12 hours a day stuck with the same people day in day out hearing all their bullshit about how they get drunk every night and having to physically pick up their mess when they screw up like it was not their fault.
Then, geez, I don't know, GET A NEW JOB.

I'm working on finishing my degree, but in general I prefer work to school. A lot of the effort of enjoying work comes down to finding a boss/management team who is Not a Nimrod and Has Some Testicles--these are rare, however, and you have to bust ass to impress them. The lesser jobs are tolerable if you know they're something you're temporarily enduring while you work on the stuff that'll pay off in the long run.

School.

Positive:
-Wonderful people.
-Some fun teachers.
-School Sports.

Negative:
-TINY school.
-Tons of assholes.
-Teachers whose sole purpose in life is to fail you.
-School super hot in the summer, cold in the winter.
-Rational expressions = my worst nightmare.

i don't miss the work at all. I think the only thing I do miss is having fun with my friends during class.

Usually when it's Summer break, at first I'm filled with glee, but then after a week wears by I realize this...

Sitting on my ass and getting fat while watching boring TV shows with nothing on is all I'll be doing.

Well, until we go to Israel to visit my family there, but over there there's no good TV. Or at least good English speaking ones XD

Indeed, I love school more than I think. Sure, sometimes the teachers bog you down with a bunch of homework, but at least I get to do something during the day and meet up with my friends.

I liked school, it was fun. I got to see my friends every day, the lessons were mostly interesting (in grade 12 I dropped math to do music.. Best choice ever!) and most, if not all, the other kids were nice to me, I wouldn't say I was friends with all of them but I could make small talk if need be.

Having said all that.

I do not miss school.

I'm studying music at Uni and it is better in every single way. My friends are like minded (being musos and all), its interesting and there is a lot more freedom. What I like best about not going to school is I don't have to see anyone who I don't want to. I did not do well at school so its good to do well at something.
