Ok, 300 m/s isn't very fast. Its probably the speed of a slow 9mm round. Second, test it on real bullets before you make a big declaration. Many a product has failed the real test, anyone remember dragon skin? There is so much complexity to ballistics, you cant just fire "bullet like" things, fire real bullets and at a lot faster than 300m/s. So far the only thing this might protect you from is grenade shrapnel, IED shrapnel is much faster.

What about weight issues? Last I heard liquid weighed loads
You've never worn a combat armor vest have you.
But isn't a liquid kilo as in a litre weigh the same as a sold kilo, as in a kilo. So the the same amount of armour in terms of liquid or solid would wiegh the same, unless custard has some sort of Fermionic Condensate properties which would allow it to be small in mass yet retain some rigidity... and it would be cold, so infantry in the desert wouldn't die of sunbathing and other beach related illness's.

Republicans bless the metric system.
No, i believe it's a litre of Water that weighs one kilo, the weight of other liquids varies with the density.

Still the metric system is far superior, make sure you tell your friends, also if they would like to enroll in some course i'm doing send me an email.

I AM THE MUSTARD MAN!!!

For some reason I can just imagine and guy dosing himself in this stuff and running into a firefight. Do you think the next Modern Warfare game will have an option for 'custard armor'?
It sounds a bit odd but if it works it works.

So, it's basically wearable concrete?

(reads more carefully)

Oh, it's concrete that never has to solidify to be defensibly effective. Neat, but what happens if your bulletproof vest springs a leak?

What's yellow and dangerous?

A banana with an uzi.

Wouldn't "Bulletproof Custard" be a great name for a movie.

I'm pretty sure 31 layers of Kevlar are a lot heavier than 10 layers of Kevlar + liquid. Even if it weighted as much as that Kevlar, it would still be lighter.
Hey, i've never worn a combat vest (Look at my picture, does it look like I have?) and a couple of litres of water weigh loads and this custard stuff has a higher density, it was best guess :p

I really hope people realize that "custard" is just referring to the texture and that it's not really edible. That way the number of body-armour-consumption-related deaths will at least not reach quadruple digits...

This sounds really cool but at the same time it sounds like something that Aperture Science would whip up when creating a new invention or idea.

1 lump or 2?

I recon i could get a job making custard armour - my custard is realy stodgy.

heres my prediction... the bloody stuff will melt in the desert.

Still - thixsotropic materials do make a lot of sense for armour, wonder if they have thought of using glass ;-)
