This story made my day. It's good to see someone get into the professional entertainment industry without having to use higher connections or already have a lot of money.

That had to be the most atmospheric and extremely fucking cool video I've seen in a long while. All disaster movie directors, look on fear, because this guy is coming.

Impressive. Though it kinda looks like Earthbound intro when it say's "The War Against Giygas" in action form.

Oh and some musics are taken from John Murphy's soundtracks of 28 days/weeks later franchise.
I knew the music from somewhere! Couldn't think were from though.

I'll also be honest in saying that I have very mixed opinions about foreign film makers, especially when they primarily want to set movies in their native land or whatever.
err because America is the only country on the planet? I don't know about you but I'm sick of seeing movies based in New York or LA there are other cities out there.
True enough I suppose, but I tend to notice a distinct decline in film quality when you wind up with a foreign director, dealing with his homeland. Oftentimes accompanied by attempts to referance to politics and situations that I have little or no opinion on.

New York and LA are overused, but that's because of the film studios based there, and the fact that it's easy to produce high quality results that close to home. Califonia has Hollywood of course, and New York largely has a lot of TV studios. Due to the time they have been working the area they have plenty of perfect locations to shoot in, know the ideal angles, etc...

Even doing a horror movie, and backed by American studios/producers, the guy is still going to be operating thousands of miles away with minimal infrastructure. This means it's going to be MORE expensive within his limited budget to try and get what he needs.

And you think the rest of the world gives two craps about some American joke or politics that are in every god-damn movie coming out?

Even if this guy is a one-hit wonder of directing, I still wanna know what was going on. Was it always the plan to group up and detonate? Or did sudden unexpected military force cause them to change? Are they the aggressors, or are we? Where can I get one of those robots the kid in the beginning was playing with?

You know, that same thought had crossed my mind--what if they were Starmen and Cute Lil UFOs?

That guy must have a few very talented friends. I don't know how you would make those special effects with less than 500$ otherwise.
But I think a big chunk of the awesomeness must be attributed to the song from the 28 days later soundtrack. That song kicks ass. Well, the whole movie kicks ass, especially the part where the song plays.

I'm surprised he didn't ink with Roland Emmerich, the last third has so many riffs taken right out of Independence Day. I'm glad he not extending the story of this short, though, it's pretty bold to let something this buzz worthy stand on its own.

Despite this guy's technical ability, I'm really not at all that impressed. For all the giant robots and explosion-fest action, absolutely nothing happened. $500 and a lot of time can make anything look cool, but in the 4 minute video all we got was "robot aliens show up and tear shit up."

It looks cool, but I see nothing here to warrant a film contract. Best of luck to Mr. Alvarez though.
