Teenager: "Damn, I can't play videogames on my own in this hotel. Oh, well, I'll just have to watch television on my own."

I looks like those kids are gonna be playing some ball 'n' cup over christmas. For all you digital citizens who think I'm making a sexual joke, this is what I'm talking about:

Interesting, but I presume with imposing this rule that the activities are free? If not, then that is a very nasty surprise for the parents in return.

Parents: "Aha, we're taking you somewhere where you aren't allowed to play videogames (because our own parenting skills are that diabolical that we need a hotel to enforce rules on you)!"
Kids: "Sure thing, but be prepared to open that wallet of yours up a bit...."

Highland games, archery, and an "outdoor laser quest"? Where can I make my reservation?
Indeed, why would I even want to consider video games if they're offering things like that? I rather not do them with my family though, they're too whiny.

I like that idea. Lots. Those of you anti social rejects who are against the idea are simply spoiled children with no values as people. Not wanting to spend time with the family that brought you up and most likely brought your first games console. That's immature and selfish.

EDIT: You all also seem to be missing the point. They're not banning video games throughout all of Scotland. Just in THAT hotel.

I usually bring a portable gaming device on vacation, but in the hotels I never use it, mainly for the car/plane/train(trains kick ass) rides so this wouldn't effect me if I went there. all in all it's a good idea, ban tv as well that would be broader.

Seams like a pretty good idea...

I have only one problem with that and it is that you can't play any party games either, like Guitar Hero, but then again you have laser tag so AWESOME...

I would say that if they had simply taken away the games, I would have been annoyed.
They have, however, obviously put in some effort to give the kids something to do, some of which sounds pretty awesome.

I wish I were Scottish...
No, you really really don't. We're the only goddamn country whose weather is so bad that global warming makes us get colder.

Perthshire? Crieff? While this doesn't affect me much, this news article is based on my back garden essentially. I live near Crieff, in the Perthshire countryside. Damn, it feels odd to see names of places I genuinely know near me.

How would they enforce this? Set up extra guards and cameras to find DSes and PSPs and confiscate them? And what about people with iPhones?

this is stupid, its some old curmudgeon pissed about video games trying to bring back the past the way he remembers it. Time change so do families, people and technology. deal with it and dont impose your beliefs on others.

Really really good idea. I totally agree. Highland games and ceilidhs to quad biking, archery, "outdoor laser quest" sounds fun. Any of you people who disagree are nerds and need to get a life.

Also message to retard above me ^^, its for a few days NERD! Who plays games on holidays anyway jeez, talk about it taking over your life
