Contradictory, as usual, but still a fun read.

And to those who think Yatzee getting lots of fans and views making his opinion valid and him not an idiot but you one, I have a few things to say:

I'm very sure he realizes he called himself in idiot in this article. There's little question there. He's using the word "idiot" bluntly. He's not saying we all have IQ's lower than 70, no matter how hilarious that would make his forum be. In fact, idiots by his term seem to be those who listen to people with little to no knowledge of what their opinion is based on, which is sort of what reading the article does.

Also, if you agree with Yatzee's opinion to his exact degree, you're kind of a douchebag, something he realizes he can be (or at least sounds like). What he says is suppose to be funny. That's why people watch his videos. If they weren't funny he'd be trolled more than an analogy that could be inserted here. He'd be told he has "an entire tree stuck up his ass"*. Most of the time he's the epitome of hyperbole, and that makes him "famous" (at least to the "idiot crowd" apparently).

*I have NO idea where I'm "quoting" that from.

It scares me that I read and listen to what you think, and find you to be only two years in a factory making wrist-watches for armless people behind my mum on the scale of cynicism...
We haven't spoken in two years but I hear she now owns a factory...
Could you be!?
Mummy!?
Oh and why Cthulu? "Penguin with machine gun" surely???

Who wants to bet the Escapist is gonna force Yahtzee to review ODST one of these days?

But wait, Dear Yathzee, by making these videos and articles, does that not make you an idiot too? Your assuming that people are interested in your thoughts aswell, just like the idiots you mentioned.
He could always counter you with "I do it for the money."
But wouldn't that make him a prostitute then?

Does he care?

OT: I thought Yahtzee LIKED reviewing bad games? Why wouldn't he review ODST?

Because non-idiots realize that if they want to be creative they could, say, download Game Maker 7, or start up a word processor and write a story about their dog, or just tear open their own fingertip and create angry art on the nearest wall.
There's something oddly familiar about the examples, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Why the hell are these comments about Yahtzee instead of his article? Isn't there something more significant in the idea that a "nonlinear game" is actually an engine, not a game at all?

I thought the game was entertaining for an hour or so, it wasn't so much about being "creative" as finding the most elaborate solutions to overly simple puzzles. When I realsied the grappling hook was needed 9/10 times, I just got bored.

I agree with pursuing a real source of creativity- and not just because I have my developing novel open on the desktop! Maybe I should have made it about my dog after all...

Those of you who feel the need to defend yourself against Mr. Croshaw calling you an idiot are not only an idiot, but you're also pathetic. You feel the need to affirm your intelligence as if Ben, myself, and the entire internet are going to be impressed. Everyone is an idiot. Everyone will always be an idiot. The best you can hope to do is actively live the struggle towards something resembling intelligence. Besides you almighty intellects of the internet, if you're so smart then you should feel no need to impress us retards.

If you do the last one, Kira has chosen you.

I'm wondering if he's going to review MW2 in November, instead of a some gay little game like he always does. Don't get me wrong, that review about the time traveling FPS was quite funny, but I usually read reviews of games that I've heard about.

Well you obviously care if you took the time to read and comment.

I'd bet that more people care about what Yahzee thinks than what you think. Judging from the fact that he gets paid for his opinion and because of all the comments
I still don't feel that he can call his entire audience idiots just because of that. On a semi-related note, why is it that only comedians that can get away with that crap? If someone like a judge (a real one that is) did it they'd be out on the street by the next day.

Only they can get away with it because idiots get offended too easily, and by idiots I mean everyone. This includes you as well it does myself.

Quick test to be sure.

1. Are you human?
2. Do you use the internet?
3. Is bacon delicious?

If you answered 'yes' to any of these, then you are in fact an idiot.

I dislike the philosophy that nearly all people on the planet are idiots, and that any smart people out there should also be treated as idiots simply because of the number of idiots around. It's ludicrously pessimistic and elitist. Also, how exactly did that answer my original question?

To the people who have issues with being anything less than omniscient super-brains:

If you honestly believe yourself to be intelligent simply because you compare yourself to other people you see, then you are only blinding yourself to the other side of the spectrum. You fail to see the immense quantities of things that you are blissfully, mouth-breathingly, and drool-faced retardedly ignorant to. I simply prefer to compare myself to the brighter end of the spectrum. It doesn't do much for my intellectual curiosity if I compare myself to a fresh steamy turd, now does it?

Yahtzee has a way of always typing what I'm thinking.
Bravo. *Sniffs* Bravo.

By the way, I'm gonna have to make the case that Yahtzee was not, in fact, saying that everyone is an idiot, simply that the vast majority of people are. And even if they're not, the voices of the stupid will drown out those of the diligent slightly-above-average-intelligence-types because, quite simply, being an idiot is less work.
And while we're on the topic, "everyone is an idiot" is a meaningless statement. It's like saying "mice are huge, man." What's your benchmark?
