it appears I'm out of the loop. What did this guy do that was so bad/pissed off Anonymous? To wind up costing a guy his job seems a little extreme. Whatever he did, I'm sure there could have been a more peaceful arrangement.

Whatever, I'm a pansy who thinks that everyone should treat everyone right, but whatever. Unless there was some huge conspiracy or something that makes this guy a douchebag somehow
Actually, yeah, there was! Bruce Schneier helpfully listed these on his site: posts [http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/02/anonymous-to-security-firm-working-with-fbi-youve-angered-the-hive.ars] on the topic from ArsTechnica.

Guy's in deep with a group whose idea of a business model is to dig up dirt and use it no matter how accurate it is, commit acts of character assassination and false flag operations on civilians both American and foreign, violate the Constitution and then try sell themselves as the James Bond version of MI6 to the first sucker with fat pockets.

Seriously, when a member of your company can openly contemplate impersonating a high school classmate of someone in order to scare them into buying your product and not IMMEDIATELY get slapped down for it, you have no soul. Corporations often fit the DSM-IV's listing for psychopathy but this one seemed to strive for it.

If the CEO's and politicians had any then there would be nothing embarrassing for Anonymous to expose.
Like I said, there's nothing stopping them.
But they told me if I had nothing to hide I shouldn't be scared [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kx05kU5gZg]! How could they possibly have something to hide?

Excellent, these corporate bosses should realise that if they do something that is morally questionable that there are consequences.
Also now anyone who says anonymous is powerless can shut up, these people have gotten corporate bosses out of a job, people have killed themselves, sites have gone down and been taken over.

This is justice, that is all.

I'm not pretending to understand the situation as I like to avoid it, but as mentioned before this site doesn't seem to want to cater to only gaming news now so I have to read this shit once in a while, but on to my question that I hope someone can answer for me without directing me to page after page of this stuff:

Personal opinions aside, wasn't this guy just screwed over for doing his job, a legal job in which he was hired to do?

As I said I don't tend to follow it too much, at all really if I'm honest but I do feel for the guy, it's one thing to take someone down but involving their home address and essentially a family that are only involved by name is a bit of a low blow. If it's a security firm then they've most likely dealt with some dodgy people who were in the wrong and giving them a way to find this guys home and family, maybe for revenge, is in my opinion going a little too far.

If this group has no structure, no "leaders" then as someone mentioned already who will tell them when they go too far. Here's hoping they don't decide to turn on someone else for doing their job as I'm sure it's only a matter of time until someone gets their order wrong at McDonalds... "I DIDN'T WANT CHEESEEEEEE" *hack* *hack* "That will teach them".

Ignorant to the facts, most likely, but I'm just trying to understand this stuff.

Not sure if this has been posted or not but, here's an article that goes into how the whole thing went down in great detail.

Thanks for that link, made me spit out liquids at varying intervals from laughter.

Honestly...if this is the mindset of an important security firm's CEO, then I can't help but wonder really how retarted the rest of the official and 'professional' circles actually are.

I wonder if he is just being thrown under the bus for this to save face for the company. Easier to blame everything on one guy, but I would be highly surprised if the whole list of shenanigans this guy did didn't involve other people at the company.

UrKnightErrant, thanks for the reply. I find it a little hard to do research because I don't actually have any real idea what's going on and where I'd even begin, how far back to look etc, as I said normally I don't pay attention to this stuff so it's hard to look in over the last 2 or 3 stories and have any idea what it's actually all about, and based on the this story (as some of the only information I've seen) I still find giving out his home address too much, even if the rest is justifiable, the guys got a family this could affect.

If it's going to continue to get reported on a site I visit daily I thought I might as well check what it's about rather than ignore it, these type of stories seem to receive most of the site communities interaction lately (unless someone does something silly), which is a shame considering the site is meant to be about gaming culture and not "real" news. If it's going to be on the site I'd rather they kept it to the forums and kept the news gaming related, but that's just my opinion :)

I sometimes wonder what would happen if we put Anonymous in charge of the country.
Punchlines:
1) You mean they aren't?
2) Exactly the same with different names.
3) Boxxy replaces Miley Cyrus.
4) Every advert break would start with a Rick Roll.
5) They never leave their parent's house so how would they know.
6) ????
7) PROFIT!
God dammit root, I went to get a drink after reading this and made me laugh. Water all over the floor.
I'm glad though Anon was semi-successful. Sure the guy isn't the CEO or whatever but, the companies still there and theres plenty more evil out there trying to ruin..... everything.
