Hey, at least that's more exciting than an FPS. That's just running around and shooting things. Or platformers, they're just plain running around.not a zaar said:There's new ideas in jRPGs? Since when? It's all exp grinding and min-maxing.
Maybe that's why <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz38e5-wXgs>Namco releases the best JRPGs.toapat said:why do JRPGs other then Pokemon sell? Turn Based combat is for pen and paper, and Pokemon, which despite how cool it is in TV form, would cause anyurisms (can i get a proper spelling?) if they actually made it the hectic form of combat in the TV show
how does that work? and random encounters are not necessarily a JRPG thing, the thing is, and there is a difference between an Eastern RPG and a JRPG. neither really makes sence, but Eastern feels more natural.NeutralDrow said:Maybe that's why <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz38e5-wXgs>Namco releases the best JRPGs.toapat said:why do JRPGs other then Pokemon sell? How does what work? The game? Really, the original distinction was between PC RPGs and Console RPGs. It's just that there's been too much overlap over the past decade for those labels to mean anything.and random encounters are not necessarily a JRPG thing, the thing is, and there is a difference between an Eastern RPG and a JRPG. neither really makes sence, but Eastern feels more natural.
LOLWUT? Square might not have done anything as heinous as what Sega's done to Sonic, but have you PLAYED any of their remakes and the games they're based on? They completely destroy the script of every game they remake with the exception of FF4DS because the original was already so bad. And you're really going to say FF8-10 were better than 5-7? Square does not improve, they do the exact same thing SEGA does and screw over the people who got them to where they are by targeting a totally different audience. Square went from fantasy adventure to anime melodrama, and Sonic went from the blue blur to a furry version of The Jonas Brothers, but at least SEGA keeps it to Sonic and doesn't go around screwing up all their partners' games as well.HardRockSamurai said:Square doesn't make any new IPs, but constantly improves their old franchises.
That's true, we haven't seen anything truly new and exciting from Square for some time now. Nothing like the gems they used to produce in the SNES era like Secret of Evermore & Chrono Trigger. No, it seems they're all to content to sit back and milk the Final Fantasy franchise for all it's worth.LaBambaMan said:It seems all I ever see with Square's logo on it is another shitty Final Fantasy game these days, anyway. yes, random encounters are because originally the games couldnt track everything moving around. the true distinctions in RPGs are Western, Eastern, Ye Olde RPG, and JRPG. Ye Olde are the old fashioned western RPGS which are similar to JRPGs, but modern ones are either for newer programmers, or for low bandwidth internet. JRPGs seem to be really stubborn though and practically are raping the old traditions of gaming. The RPG and the Strategy game are related in the fact that both require far more processor and ram then the simple FPS, which is why we have practically eye humpingly beautiful FPS games while RPG games and RTS games tend to have "lower" quality graphics. i find that when im playing Dynasty Warriors 3 on my PS2, the game begins to fail to render the legions i generally have Lu Zun/Guan Yu/whoever else im playing wading through successfully.NeutralDrow said:How does what work? I'm not entirely sure what you're complaining about in all of that. Random encounters? If so, I feel compelled to point out that they're becoming increasingly uncommon.toapat said:yes, random encounters are because originally the games couldnt track everything moving around. the true distinctions in RPGs are Western, Eastern, Ye Olde RPG, and JRPG. If I'm understanding you right, I think that might be because that particular youtube video has crappy quality. <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSWdlV9-gWk>This one's a little better.the namco game video you showed me appears to be very confusing as the slow, non-hotkey system that JRPGs use ends up slowing down the game, as the fast paced constant movement dont work together
Yeah, they're all too eager to wank off to Cloud McDipshit these days. I will, however, give them credit for putting out a new Front Mission game, and actually advertising it! Sure it's not like the older ones, but hey it's Front Mission for fuck's sake!canadamus_prime said:That's true, we haven't seen anything truly new and exciting from Square for some time now. Your sarcasm fails because those are all fun things to do, unlike exp grinding.NeutralDrow said:Hey, at least that's more exciting than an FPS. That's just running around and shooting things. Clearly, we need more sports games. Those are always creative.
And not all JRPGs involve EXP grinding. Ever play Golden Sun and its sequel? It's very possible to beat the games without grinding for EXP.not a zaar said:Your sarcasm fails because those are all fun things to do, unlike exp grinding.NeutralDrow said:Hey, at least that's more exciting than an FPS. No they aren't. At least exp grinding can involve not doing the same thing over and over.not a zaar said:Your sarcasm fails because those are all fun things to do, unlike exp grinding.NeutralDrow said:Hey, at least that's more exciting than an FPS. Sonic Chronicles included a lot of elements from SatAM.Jman1236 said:Sega? Want to make money? Think this over: "Sonic Satam RPG", think about it.
