Sega: Sonic Games Don't Suck, You Just Don't Understand Them

I understand that people like different things but the people who like the most recent 3D Sonic games are 7 year old kids who don't any better. Us grown-ups see these games as the turds they are, and that's why we don't 'understand' (read: like) them.

It's not like I hate Sonic or anything, hell, I like Sonic Heroes but they're taking the wrong approach with 3D Sonic - I am confident it could work, but they just make really awful design decisions. Well at least they're trying to innovate I guess...right, Nintendo?

You're right, we don't understand the new Sonic games. We also don't understand whatever you've been drugs you've been consuming whilst designing these bloody things either.

I thought sonic battles for the gamecube was fun, but then again, I was in middle school waaaay back then and never had the desire to touch another since. It's not like there's much more they can do it seems to make the games actually feel like they're progressing in any fashion. They could pretty much pass for a bargain/online game store-bought title and that's it because nothing they've produced is worth the money.

Sega has what I like to call the "Capcom Symdrome".

If a series sells well, why bother innovating? Case in point for Capcom, Megaman, Resident Evil, Street Fighter.

Anyway, I don't think that the games seem bad because of our expectations. Our expectations are legitimate, and regardless of the dimension the game plays in, quality is a must.
The Sonic Adventure games had Sonic's speed and platforming down perfectly. It's only a huge disappointment that only 1/6 of both games involved Sonic at all.

That's my proposal for a good Sonic game. Emulate the kind of gameplay in the Sonic segments of the Adventure series. Subtract other character storylines, subtract gimmicks. Robotnik's causing trouble, Sonic's going to stop him. That's all you need.

I was raised on Nintendo consoles and didn't get a chance to seriously play the old 2D Sonics until fairly recently, and I can attest, without nostalgia goggles and without being a Sonic fanboy, that the old Sonics were excellent platformers, while the 3D Sonics have mostly been awful.

Sorry Sega, it's the games and not the fans who have the problem.

Sonic's biggest problem is people like this. Even if the fans don't get your games, what does that tell you? You are making the wrong god-damned game, stupid.

Let's think about this for a second, really think about it. What keeps going wrong with Sonic? It's the gimmicks, the additions, that keep throwing him off track, like an un-necessary spoiler on a car. The biggest dead-weight, in my opinion, is his supporting cast, and the incessant need to re-use them. Why is this so hard for Sega to get? Nobody cares about Shadow, Amy, or Cream the brain-smearing Rabbit. Nobody ever has, nobody ever will. I mean, look at Mario's supporting cast. How many recurring, major characters are there, really? He has quite the stable, but they aren't popping up everywhere. They are support. Hell, half of them are, at best, a game mechanic, like Yoshi, or sometimes Luigi. Does anybody really expect that fat-ass purple star from Galaxy 2 to ever, EVER show up again? No. It wouldn't make sense, because he doesn't matter. So none of Sonic's inconsequential bit characters should ever be more than that. Keep the focus on Sonic, not on his shiny new sword, or his Were-curse, or his bunch of Downs-syndrome groupies. I didn't show up for that shit. Give me Sonic, or get out of my game, okay Sega?

Sega: Sonic Games Always Sucked, Now You Understand Us

Never understood what was so good about the original Sonic game.
Was it because you Segays didn't have a good platformer so you'd sell your sisters for anything that would bounce on the Megadrive? I've never seen games with so much wasted space in level design. :D

Easy guys.

This article is old and I'll forgive it since sonic colors was decent. But blaming the fans for not understanding your game is kinda a slap in the face, we've been with the blue blur through thick and thin since the early 90's. So SEGA you have no right to say such bull, but you guys fnal realize that your little gimmick of new characters every game just isn't working so that's a step in the right direction.

hopefully you guys have learned your lesson with making sonic games. And more importantly not blame your shortcomings on people who expect more out of you. We don't want you to revert back to your old school ways...or at least this fan doesn't. You guys just need to learn how to hire good game designers that no the do's and dont's of a sonic game.

okay i might get in trouble for this but sega...FUCK YOU SEGA im a massive fan and a love of the hedgehog fuck i grew up with it and i downloaded sonic 2 for my 360 because i loved the game and i still do. hell of the video game chicks i love is Amy Rose. Not to mention i love sonic adventure and its sequel and bought the re releases when they hit the gamecube (sonic adventure DX and sonic adventure 2 battle) but when you make me want to find everyone on the staff of the sonic 2k6 and unleased teams and kicking them in the balls or hit them with chairs WWE style. what kind of pretentious hipster backwards shitface bullshit is you just dont get them?! what is there to get?! its sonic running from point a to point b as fast you can or looking for something to carry on the story.
