I'm a woman. I used to not be (like, really, assertively not, downright sexist, lol). Given that aroundabout 12 years ago my gender switched on me, me about 12 years ago is my opposite gendered self.

years 2 (first knowledge of self-awareness) - 12 years old = happy enough being a boy. Didn't think about it. Was typical example of cisgender (laymans = not trans) child. Nobody, including me, thinks different.
12 years old onwards = at some point after my twelfth birthday, something happens. As I said to Megacherv, likely puberty. My own identification of my gender flips from 'boy' to 'girl' over a very short space of time. Cue much sadness.
So... switched on me. I certainly never asked it to. One day I was one, next day I was another. (more or less.)
