They ARE the government, their only power lies not in reason, but in the fact that, the consequences to not adhering to their edicts (no matter how absurd) are, initially a threat to your person or property and lastly, your death

What a pain in the ass. Gamestop = Pawn Shop?

Lol?
Have you been inside a Gamestop in the last 5 (hell, 10) years? That's all they are these days. Glorified pawn shops.

If you're buying used games you're hurting the game industry. If you're selling used games back to a store you're getting ripped off. A thumbprint takes 10 seconds to give, and is only used to catch criminals. Stop being a bunch of babies and stop crying about Big Brother and other nonsense.

I think the point most people are trying to make about this invasion of privacy is that a thumb print should not be required when simply checking photo ID should be enough. The majority of small-time criminals that would be trying to fence stolen video games would not think of or could not afford a fake ID. Think of it this way: ID is proof of who you are, a fingerprint is evidence.

my thoughts exactly, pawn shops around me dont have to fingerprint people, but they do get some info off the ID

Luckily I haven't had this happen to me at all. But if I did... I'd turn around, leave the store and never come back.

Wow, so not only does Gamestop get to rip people off royally for their used games in that area, but you ALSO have to get fingerprinted because Big Brother Says So. I know I'm tempting fate, but is there any way there can be any MORE gaming-related regulations then there are now? Seriously, this is ridiculous.

In Virginia, pawn shops make you fill out a form and attach a copy of your ID to it because pawning an item is considered a written contract. You have to provide a thumbprint when you go to cash a check and you do not have an account there.

Jeez. GameStop is not the only place where people can trade-in games! There is Amazon.com and CraigsList.org. At Amazon.com, people looking to unload their old titles can make back a respectable amount of money, as long as they copy they have is well taken care of. CraigsList is completely free. Yeah, you have to deal with spider-bots sending you scripted emails, but that comes with the territory.

Come on, people! Think! If/When you want to sell off your old games, and make some money back, don't go to GameStop! They will rip you off every single time! Go through Amazon or Craigslist.

Oh yeah. Selling stuff online means you won't have to give up your thumbprint! Not all people trading in games are crooks, for chrissakes.

I always keep my games, so you won't see me turning over my personal info anytime soon.

Also, I get the feeling that a lot of bad stuff is going to happen because of this. Just a feeling.

I understand the logic but I believe personal freedom and privacy are more important here.

Being thumbprinted to sell/trade in old video games is ridiculous.

Honestly though if I ever decide to open my own video game store, I am going to volunteer to take DNA samples from the customers bringing in used games. I'll personally hang out behind the counter with a needle to draw blood.

"Best Trade ins in town" ignore the smiling security gorillas by the door preventing you from leaving (after all to run would be a sign of guilt)... now let's find that vein. No no I have no formal training, I'm merely a good samaritan . My needles? Of course they are sterile, none of the junkies using them have complained of any infection...

Of course only half the blood I collect would be sent to the police, the rest would be hawked on street corners at a premium to sick goth kids who want to slurp it to impress their friends...

<Yes, this is a joke. I simply thought of it when I read the stupidity of fingerprinting. Made me think DNA might be next>
