For games I feel like Turok got the shaft with sequels, especially within the new generation. Every Turok game after the N64 has sucked.
Every Turok game after the first one sucked, and the first has aged fairly poorly [yay for hitscan enemies with 360 fire arcs and range greater than the draw distance]. Anyone who praises Turok 2 either has no ability to feel boredom or doesn't remember it.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Two Thrones. Ubisoft just had to make the games edgy and my experience with those two games are just not good. This is where I pretend they were never made.
So you're mad at games that improved upon the gameplay and story of the original...just because it's edgy? =/
The gameplay got marginally better. It's not like they overhauled the enitre combat system.

I saw no improvement in the story. They tried to make it "edgy" to appeal to a larger audience. The Prince became the typical anti-hero, and Farah became the cliched bad ass female warrior.

In general, I didn't like the stroy, atmosphere, or characters. The platforming/puzzle solving remained top-notch though.

Whatever. I just see the sequels as being completely untrue to the spirit of the original game. It'd have been better if Naughty Dog created a new series of games using their proprietary "let's rip off GTA" model. And if they're going to freaking give us GUNS, let us STRAFE and AIM manually with them!

Ah the worst sequel that really burnt my soul was Mercenaries 2. The original Mercenaries I absolutely loved to no end. I loved it so much I took Mercs 2 back and bought the original and played that instead.

Deus Ex 2 was another soul burn. Deus Ex is a game I have played through so many times I know the lines by heart but love the experience every time. 2.... Eh... Not so much. The story was good and J.C. said some pretty deep shit but I don't know. Alex just wasn't a great protagonist to me.

Any sequel of a Jim Carrey movie that does't have Jim Carrey in it. Dumb and Dumberer, Son of the Mask, Ace Ventura 3, Evan Almighty, all these would be things to avoid. I mean how successful do you think a movie is going to be if it takes out the one thing that has any hope of making it at least enjoyable in the first place?

Also, F.E.A.R didn't need a sequel, it needed a fucking ending.

Very true; I can hardly remember any of the story mode in Turok 2, but it did have a pretty fun multiplayer mode. I remember wasting many hours playing against my dad and little sister. Oh nostalgia.

Starfox Assault needs a mention for one of the most amazing failures to comprehend what the series it was in was actually about in history. Plus for the fact that the handful of plot not lifted wholesale from Silpheed: The Lost Planet and made stupid was obviously there as part of some hideous attempt to pair Fox and Wolf up, or was dealing with useless fanboy nickpicks [yeah, thanks for establishing that Fortuna and Fichina are different planets, we'll just ignore minor issues like why Andross was exiled to an inhabited planet with massive natural resources or how a main sequence star has a surface made of lava to cover that meaningless bullshit]. It was horrible and the handful of passible space levels just served to emphasise the shittiness of the rest of the game. It's like it was made to make us retroactively like Adventures by comparison.

Halo 3 should have never existed, it ruined the franchaize for me
I agree. The Halo franchise couldn't have been in a better spot after the 2nd game pretty much perfected the console multiplayer FPS. Then Halo 3 came and crapped all over the Battle Rifle and tweaked things that didn't need tweaking.

I really wish they would've stopped making Pokemon after the first generation. I mean, it was hard enough back then, but now there's no way I'll ever catch 'em all!

[small]*Only partial sarcasm...*[/small]
Heh heh... I never even caught them all the first time! But I did like the series up to Crystal version. Wait... Make that Sapphire version. Oh, what a pretty pokemon I had! We won so many contests together!
[small]I, too, use partial sarcasm.[/small]
OT: Spider-Man(The movie game) shouldn't have existed. 2 and 3 were awesome but 1 shouldn't have existed. Sucked bad. That's kinda like a sequel, right?

And Star Wars: Podracer 2 should've existed! What a great game. Totally deserved a sequel.

Seems I didn't really have anything truly on topic...

Just curious, did you mean Assault Rifle instead of Battle Rifle? I had no qualms with the Battle Rifle. The Assault Rifle was essentially useless.

Man, I just remembered that game. It was hella fun.

OT: Skate? As much as I loved it, and the second one, a sequel wasn't really necessary. They could have just added more areas and missions through DLC.

Mind you, the new additions were quite nice.

I...

truly i dont know if this is the right thing to say

STALKER: Clear sky.

i know, i know, good game, i have it. but, the departure of Shadow of chernobyl's wonderful lonely, horror-ish atmosphere, to a crowded action, faction war filled gunfight fest. I just think its odd to play, playing the two games is like playing 2 sides of a coin. (Faction wars, despite being my number one wish for STALKER SOC, were kind of broken in clear sky anyway)

Call of Pypriyat should fix all this, its supposed to be a wonderful, funderful mix of the two

Technically, Far Cry: Instincts isn't really Far Cry 1, but I played it and missed my cool animal superpowers in Far Cry 2: Average Sandbox FPS. And I don't really think you should call a game with totally different mechanics, characters and pacing a sequel.

But that's not quite what we're looking for. I don't think Final Fantasy VII needed a sequel (either in the form of a 90 minute Cloud fellatio movie or below-average third-person-shooter), and while it didn't need a prequel I found it quite nice.

Speaking of unnecessary-but-appreciated sequels: Final Fantasy X-2. I honestly enjoyed every part of this game.

The Beatles: Rock Band. Rock Band II (and/or Guitar Hero: World Tour) don't need anymore sequels. Everything I can get from the series can be done through DLC that I'll reluctantly but happily pay $2 a song for.
