[HEADING=3]!!! FIFTY-FLOOR ELE-VAPORIZER OF ELEGIAC ELEGANCE !!![/HEADING]
It only took a handful of hours in this measly World Academy for the Super Students of the Future for everyone to start killing each other. I hadn't even had enough time to wrap my head around why; did this robot in charge of whatever game show was going on in this crazy building have something to do with it?
I don't care about the prize! I just wanna go home now! Why did Mem have to die?
It didn't matter. I heard them whispering from around the corners, behind lockers, in the gymnasium. What, did they really think I was capable of that sort of thing?! I hugged my Pakipaku diary close to my chest, trying to figure a way out of this impossibly huge building. Maybe I could take a helicopter off the roof if all the doors were locked? There had to be one for filming the show, right?
I had to have expected the rest of them would be waiting at the elevator. It really was hopeless, wasn't it? To have expected anything else out of a bunch of kids...
It was a speedy trial. They tossed me into the elevator (didn't they want to see the info I recorded?) and hit the switch, heedless of my cries for mercy.
The first round up wasn't too bad. On the contrary, I found the pressure of hurtling fifty floors into the air at a hundred miles an hour brain-deadeningly relaxing. With a heart-turning pause, the elevator peaked; I could see nearly the entire set of the game show, and far beneath me, the rest of the "class."
My respite didn't last long enough, as the elevator plummeted to the ground faster than it had ascended. I thought I felt my brain smack against the back of my eyeballs when my ride came to a halting stop at the ground floor. Almost instantly it was rocketing back up, up, to the ceiling.
Maybe I was hoping for a quick death, or, if not that, merciful unconscious before being turned into a puddle of viscous lagomorph goo. The elevator made another round, and I even felt a couple of my bones break on the fourth. Then the fifth came, and the sixth, and the seventh. Up and down, up and down.
Up and down.
