So a guy decides to fake illness in order to get attention.

Lots of people feel sorry for him and decides to play his mod to make him happy.

People encourage others to donate to charity for the benefit of charity.

I see one dick and others doing something nice. Getting mad at "people" seems wrong, but that might just be me...
It's typical on the Escapist to see brooding misanthropy from people having a bad day every now and then.
Misanthropy I can deal with and to some degree understand, but I dislike generalizing humanity based on one person. Especially when the same story tells of others being decent human beings.
I think it's something they'll eventually grow out of. I don't really see it as a problem, just immaturity.

How about instead of "fuck people" we go with "fuck that guy." Seems more fitting.
No, please don't. We don't want ANY chance of him reproducing.

Cancer seems a popular fall-back. A friend of mine put a video up on Facebook years ago when I was trying to ice-skate for the first time and looked like Bambi on ice. The very first comment on that video was:
"Pussy. I hope he died. I just wasted two minutes of my life."
When my friend replied with: "No-one forced you to watch this video" they then said:
"Actually that wasn't me who posted that it was my autistic brother who has cancer so FUCK OFF!"

The internet.

This is actually funny . Why? Because he said so many times in his message that his story was not a lie . Usually when people insist they aren't lying , they are lying . People who tell the truth , generally , not insist they are telling the truth because they naturally assume the opposing party will believe them because it's the truth .

OT: What's so bad about pretending to have cancer? What i find sick about this story is that people went and checked the guys facebook to verify his story . Now THAT's sick . We really live in a world were people can check anything about you via the internet . Scary . This is why i don't have facebook .

TL;DR: Facebook is evil.
I actually read the story and here's the quote of the actual post
If you've been on the irc in the past half hour, then you probably already know.

I've been battling with leukemia for the past year of my life. However, no matter how much chemo I went through the cancer just wouldn't go into remission. I'm at the point where I have a week or two to live, according to the doctors.

As such, I'm tying up loose ends before I croak.

So, with that in mind, I just want to thank all of you for putting up with me as long as you did. I'll be the first to admit that I was a honest to god brat when I was active here. And yet, I made friends. I made hacks. Hell, one of mine even got featured for a bit there!

My one regret is that Notte Luminosa never got Let's Played by someone worth a damn (read: anyone). So someone get on that. Or not. Not like I'll get to see it, anyways.

So keep on chugging, [Omitted] Don't ever change. Except when necessary.
By the way I'm purposely not listing the website cause OP doesn't want it here to add more publicity to the chap and I just know you guys can't resist going there if I provided the link.
So he went ahead and lied to an entire community, pretended to have a fatal condition for publicity and you're saying the only issue with this story is that they found him on facebook? For all we know they checked because they wanted to make sure that he actually died and if so to send condolences, considering how many people were fooled I doubt they were calling bullshit from day one.

But I agree with your TL;DR Facebook is the epitome of all evil and I'll never touch the stuff again.
Okay with this added information i can see why it'S so bad . Doing it for publicity is pretty terrible i agree.I hereby retract my answer . But keep my facebook comment valid.

Wait...Doesn't the fact this his scam WORKED say something positive about humanity? I mean sure, one guy acted like a enormous asshole, but a whole bunch of people decided to do something nice for a cancer patient. Based on a lie, sure, but they didn't know that.

Well I'm pissed off and it's all over a Super Mario World rom hack. What happened was that a person, who I will not name because they don't deserve the publicity, decided to make a rom hack of SMW called Notte Luminosa and it went relatively unnoticed. But because this waste of a human felt his game wasn't noticed enough so he decided to fake having Leukemia and said his last wish was to have his game let's played by some one so several let's player began playing it in order to fulfill his wish. But after about a week some mods at a rom hack forum found the bastard's facebook page where he had been posting regularly and had even posted a picture where he was perfectly healthy. The one good thing that could come out of this stunt is that since some of the let's players decided to request their viewers to donate to cancer charities so maybe someone else's life was saved from the money that was donated. *sigh* I just wish some people could just leave this planet.
Yeah I was miffed when I found out about it too. I had recorded about 6 episodes of Notte when I found out and they were going to be edited so I deleted them. One good thing came from this dick move though: more people donated to Cancer research. Now that doesn't excuse Yanama for tricking many famous LPers, and myself (not famous XD), into thinking he had Leukemia, but karma is really gonna get to him.

Whoever visited his facebook page may have had honorable intentions. Maybe to offer condolence. Maybe to tell him that they'd started a playthrough. Maybe someone visited his page for reasons entirely unconnected with his tragic tale and may even have opened his facebook page before reading his leukemia post.

Plenty of worse shit to hate humanity for. Hell, I know people who have done worse (I do not particularly like them though). But as for people in general?

Naw, Don't fuck people. Lots of us are wonderful! The fact that this little shite is going to end up feeling the pain of this bullcrap for quite a long time, especially if the non game related media decide to spin this as a 'Gamers are pathetic scum' story (Which I sorta hope happens) means that what he did does not really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Fuck me I am tired, Totally and utterly trashed. Time to sleep.

EDIT:

What this guy said.

Yeah, every cloud, this sorta has one hell of a silver lining. Money was given to cancer charities and the essential human decency of a bunch of dudes shone through.

Time to pass out methinks.

Not sure if this is really thread worthy. Not exactly an Earth-shattering revelation here. People will do dickish things so long as it serves them in some way. Atleast his dickishness got people to donate to cancer charities.

The OP is quite correct; I once tried to fuck a pencil sharpener and I ended up needing 3 stitches in my bell end.

Well.. It was a bad thing but it did generate some charity money for a good cause. I know too many people already who have died from cancer.

What the........ are you serious? o_O

OT: People are dicks, nothing to get fired up about, especially since it got money donated to cancer. Overall a good result.

It's kind of hilarious. Sure, some gamers played a game they didn't have to play and maybe some money was raised for cancer...terrible people!!! Arrgh, how will I go on!!! (Can you sense the sarcasm?)

Maybe the goal of this guy's life is to pull off a massive hoax. Some people just don't give a heck about anyone else. Maybe he's a comedian and this is his first big joke. Sure it's in bad taste, but shock value is big in comedy. And you can't say there's anything wrong with that thought because no one knows why we are here. There are much worse people out there...like Josef Fritzl, for example.
