He asked about the story. Since he said he didn't understand the "cult status" and dared to say HL sucks in the same post. People disregarded the question as they felt his penis enter thier bums dry. Which then was followed by people telling him that it was because the graphics are dated that he didn't understand (as we all know graphics make the story and therefore make the game). The game Half Life is from the old school genre of games which can basically be summed up as "shit has gone down, are you a bad enough dude to stop it". The style isn't very different to that of Doom or Wolfenstein. The basic plot of Half Life is that you are a scientist, you put a crystal in a place it doesn't belong and aliens invade the research facility. Marines come but because the game needs a new enemy, they are out to kill you. They fail and you go to an alien planet were you kill the Big Bad and then the G-Man (guy in the blue suit you might see walking around) does something to you, the game ends.
To be honest Blue Shift and Opposing Force, which are two games centralised on the Black Mesa incident, are better games. I would play those.
Don't worry about beating Half Life 1 to understand the plot in Half Life 2. The only thing that continues on is Zombies, Aliens (which some are now good for some reason), G-Man and Barney. Everything else is new.
For the record, this guy is not trolling. He isn't doing anything wrong here. The Escapist has more Valve fanboys than the Valve community forums, it's a fucking joke. Just because someone doesn't like Half Life does not mean he's a jerk out to cause harm.

System Shock 2 is much more expansive, and alot longer. Of course it did, everyone who has played SS2 knows that.
But I applaud Irrational Games for keeping with what worked, and what made money. Which is probably why BioShock was GOTY for 2007.
I played Half life 2 first and it's probably had the best first playthrough of any fps I've ever played.
If you don't like Half Life tha's fine. It's always hard to like a game that's older than your used to. I had to force myself through it at times, even as someone who likes the half life franchise and valve as a developer.
Once you move on to half life 2 and start playing that you'll start seeing what we're all rantng about all the time.

Alright all you people using the "it's old" defense really need to explain something here. Where in the OP does he mention anything about the graphics? It being old would be the reason the graphics are dated. It being old has nothing to do with the story unless the story didn't age well and since a good story is timeless well either the story does suck and your fanboyism won't allow you to admit it. Or the story is good but your fanboyism won't allow you to get past the fact that he doesn't get it.
You are just as bad as the Halo fanboys. Possibly worse since they at least offer some type of defense other than "it is old".

...Keep in mind, HL2 is a couple years old itself. While I do love the game, I think it's been outdone a couple times since its release. It's not for everyone, but definitely worth checking out.Amethyst Wind said:
