Severe musical misconceptions

**There is a thread like this that I found, but it's solely based on GAMING, not music - other than that Search bar approved**

So I was browsing through the Metal section on iTunes, hoping to find a band that can quench my musical thirst... and came to find that advertised among the top "Metal" albums, was Nickelback's "Silver side up", and perhaps I'm being picky, but Nickelback are at the MOST pop/rock...

Or am I associating them too much with Rockstar?

Classic Aerosmith is better then 'new' Aerosmith. I'm sorry, the great rock of 'Jamies Got a Gun' and 'Dream On' is much better then the 'pop' of Just Push Play.

Also, while on the topic, if the only music you know by the Beatles is from 'Across the Universe', you need to get smacked upside the head and forced to listen to the origional recordings.

Every type of music takes at least some form of musical talent...

Heck, I'm very very picky with what I listen to, but to ignorantly say that it's not music just shows that you don't have the slightest clue in what goes on behind the scenes.

I myself don't like rap, but I know it takes some talent to produce. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not music. Opinions are not facts

Tbh, you could bring in some points for Nickelback making metal after their latest album. It isn't a genrename I'd use myself but I'd hardly call it a "Severe misconception".

That said;

No. You are one of those annoying, nagging musical elitists who think Dream Theatre is the best band ever. There have been several scientific researches on the topic of music and all seem to indicate that each individual perceives music in a different manner. Which means that the old sentence of 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' is quite literally true. Sure, you can compare a couple of features from different artists and come to the logical conclusion that "Crank dat soulja boy" isn't as thought-inspiring as "Which to bury, us or the hatchet?", but this is by a LONG WAY not enough to claim that "Disturbed isn't true metal" and "Completely inferior to to bands like for example Tool".

Sure it doesn't, but it's an easier way to describe the genre than saying "Trashy-like folkmetal with lyrcs revolving mostly around trolls". Simple isn't always bad, folks.

No. Aside from taking the first point in mind and realizing you can't compare everything, it's more that good old music was simply more known than good music is nowadays. There's plenty of good artists around.

I'm not sure where this has come from, really. The fact that punkbands nowadays (Bad Religion as prime example) don't sound like old garage trash you used to have in the day (The Ramones) doesn't mean the entire genre is 'dead'? If you must, call it newpunk or modern punk or w/e you like, if you want to make a distinction between the two. Just don't go off yelling a popular catchphrase that's stupid to begin with.

And I reckon that's enough for now. In before the whining elitisism about Dream Theatre's awesomeness.

As far as music goes. Rock is the only thing I'll listen to, especially metal. Nickleback isn't metal, and I've seen them in rock the section instead of metal the section, so it could just be a mix up for that particular store.

One thing that annoys me is what people consider country music these days. Just cause your lead singer has a western accent doesn't make you a country band. Your not a country band unless you have a banjo! And Taylor Swift is not country either.

a popular one seems to be that mainstream = bad
1st its quite difficult to define mainstream as no one except chavs will say their music is main stream
2nd theres usually a reason why that band is mainstream for that genre
3rd make your own minds up and dont just say you hate something because its not alternative enough as that just makes you seem even a more of a tool
