Ah, the classic trick. See something you can exploit to get out of school early, and exploit it. "Teacher! Pokemon made me take fits! I gotta go home!" "Teacher! The word 'sex' makes me hyperventilate! I gotta go home!"

And of course they were bewildered. If they've never been told about sex the idea that boys and girls are different below the waist might've been a surprise.

Solomon went on to report that Hardy parents were "outraged" and "practically in tears" over the "inappropriate" and "graphic" survey of their children.
At thirteen I'm reasonably sure I was sneaking downstairs at 4 AM to sneak looks at Cinemax. Shockingly "graphic" at that age for me would've been hardcore porn or kink. But I forgot, their gentle snowflakes are pure and unsullied and all have the sexual interests of a kindergartener, and never mind the hair growing in odd places and the dawning realization that girls/boys aren't icky!

(Sigh.)

Of course, I don't have a good record with sex ed, personally. It has to be done right. (I skipped sex ed because I knew the teacher and the curriculum setup and figured it was gonna be a big fiasco. Well, it turns out I was right. Only sex ed class I've ever seen where you could pass with a B+ and not know when girls gained the ability to get pregnant.)

The human capacity for doublethink never fails to amuse me. Do these parents not remember being 12-13 and knowing about sex? But of course their precious cherubim could never be so CORRUPT (read: knowledgeable)

Parents need to pull their head out of their ass and learn that their kids already know this crap. At ages 11-13, I was a little bastard. Not the "angels" these parents claim they are.

11-13? Hah, I had my first sex ed lesson at 10 which was probably WAY more graphic than that test. We even had a video.

I recall having sex ed in 7th grade. I also recall one immature bloke speaking up as the expert on how to have great sex (trick the ladies into giving blowjobs laddies!)

Don't see how the questions mentioned there could harm teenagers. If you wait until they're 72 you're going to be a bit late about warning them of STDs and procreation.

Silly America.

The sort of parents that get outraged about their twelve year old kids learning about sex are the same people that probably could've done with some sex education at that age.

They're essentially the people that couldn't keep it in their pants on prom night is what I'm saying.

I.E: Babies be havin' babies and then teaching their babies to have babies through their own moralist inactivity.

Bottom line is, kids are going to have sex. They've been doing it since time out of mind. You can't stop this. All you can do is teach them to do it responsibly. If the parents are too squemish to do it themselves, then the schools will have to step in.

The hell? We had one of these when we were in sixth grade, and no one raised a stink.

The thing asked us twice if we'd ever had sex (phrased it differently), and if so, how many times.

I don't get it, honestly. At that age everyone knows what sex is and everyone has seen it, why would anyone be hyperventilating when given porn? (unless it was some some sort of bizarre tentacle rape hentai thing)
I would pay $5 to see a bunch of 11-13 year olds watching that for the friest time, use to see their reaction.

That's funny as hell.

Aww kids and anime tentacle rape porn. Maybe just tentacle rape porn.

Who the fuck was hyperventilating from "Do you think you can put a condom on?"

Once again the public becomes outraged over something hilariously stupid.

Holy shit, American kids are pussies.

When I was 12 I had access to shit like pictures of dongs and vaginas. Didn't even hyperventilate ONCE. Gave me and my friends a good laugh though (because dongs are dirty and therefore hilarious... man, kids that age have a weird sense of humor)

Oh for [PROFOUNDLY OFFENSIVE AND LENGTHY STRING OF EXPLETIVES].

It's things like this that make me glad that I'm living in Sweden and not the US. I mean, seriously. What are these parents thinking? I'm 18, I'm not having kids for a while yet, but I can not see one single logical, compelling reason a responsible parent would act like this. "Oh, but my little baby would surely be ruined for life if condoms or STD's are mentioned in his/her presence! Nope, I'd rather keep them in the dark about it, then ***** and moan about proper steps not being taken when they're pissing blood!"

I don't know about the last part, but it seems the next logical step for these people. The kind of people I'm talking about (not unique to the US, by the way) who have this notion that their children are perfect, pure, incorruptible little angels.

Here's a hint: THEY'RE NOT. I sure as hell weren't, and neither are your kids. Children are curious. That's a well established fact. Sexually explicit material is widely available EVERYWHERE, and no matter how much you try to shield your kids from it they will be exposed to it sooner or later. If they don't find something on the internet, it will be from a "cool older friend" or another kid who's managed to steal one of his dad's poorly hidden porn magazines. To quote every mad scientist ever, the possibilities are endless.

However, the sad truth is that most parents who have these opinions won't listen. They didn't grow up in an age where this material is so widely avaiable, and they have different moral values. To them, the world is frightening and unfamiliar, so different from the supposed paradise they grew up in (though to be perfectly honest, they were probably exposed to sexual things at a young age too; they just either don't remember or don't talk about it because people were much less open and accepting about it back then). This leads to contempt for society and culture at large, and thus we get scared parents who throw bitchfits because their children can't grow up in the pure, wholesome and above all "safe" world they did. A world which, by all venues of logical thinking, have not, does not, never will and practically CANNOT exist. And yet they rage.

So what's the solution? I don't know. Talking to them is useless. I'm open for suggestions, but for now I'd say to just ignore them. Including their children. Yes, I'm talking to you, kids: do not listen to your parents when they say stupid shit like this. You don't deserve to have your lifespan shortened just because your parents refused to let someone teach you how to put a piece of elastic rubber on your dong. The advice about not touching hot plates is gravy, though. Memorize it.

Aaaand that's my rant.

EDIT: Another tip. Don't bone people before your voice has dropped a few octaves.

The parents need to get with the program. I had sex-ed "lite" in fifth grade and again in 7th grade. It's no big deal.

This outrage is totally moronic, by the way.

The questions on the survey that are drawing concern were:

"How certain are you that you could name all four bodily fluids capable of transmitting the HIV virus"

and

"How certain are you that you could correctly put a condom on yourself or your partner"

That's hardly "graphic"

This survey was administered in a city with among the highest HIV infection rates in the nation.

Kids are starting to have sex in their early teens (like, at age 13) with increasing frequency. They are hardly "too young" to understand or be taught this material.

OMG! OUTRAGEOUS! Condoms are the most offensive body part of them all!

My first sex ed lesson was when I was 7... my dad taped over one of my Power Ranger vhs' with pay per view porn and he tried vaguely to explain it...
