Sexy "Power Armor", am I 'juvenile' for liking it? (a response to recent Kill La Kill concepts)

My only issue with things like is is functionality. It's not really armor if it leaves most of your vital organs exposed.
It protects the nipples, that's enough for Japan. Organs? Who needs 'em!

I wouldn't say that you are juvenile for liking this kind of stuff, but it really doesn't fall under the category of 'armour'. If it did then strippers would be the knights in g-stringey armour of this age. I have no problem with sexy character designs as long as the sexiness has some kind of context and it's not just to put as much tits and ass on show as possible.

I agree.

The proper term is 'Stripperiffic'. Please use this in the future, fellows.
...... Look. When you look at someone, even a fictional character, dressed like this and then refer to what they're wearing as "slut armor" you are inferring that that person is a slut. When you refer to it as "stripperiffic" you are inferring that they are a stripper. This is going from a judgement of the person that drew this character or put this person in that outfit, and instead is a judgement of that character/person instead.
Stripperiffic is a term used to describe an outfit that is overly sexualized, considering the outfit's purpose.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StripperIffic

You can get all offended and butt hurt, but guess what. She's drawn sexualized. The person who drew it did it on purpose. Her ass is completely exposed, you can't find an angle from which you can't see exposed breast, and her midriff is beyond exposed.

To quote a wise man.

Actually, Stripperiffic is an acknowledge trope on TV Tropes (which Accursed Theory linked to above). It is the correct term for the trope, and less offensive than "slut armor."

Dressing scantily does not make one a slut. Implying so is slut shaming.

Thus "slut armor" is a sexist term, while "stripperiffic" is a proper literary term and not offensive at a...

... yeah, okay, I couldn't finish that sentence with a straight face. However, "stripperriffic" is far less offensive than "slut armor".

Stripperiffic isn't a proper literary term. It's internet lingo by a website that treats itself as being waaaaay more important than it actually is (a trivia repository)

Fan service isn't a literary term either. Does that mean it's not a commonly used device in media?

TVTropes is a the single largest collection of narrative tools and trends on the internet, regardless of its rather hap-dash approach to accumulating them.

I also don't recall ever saying Stripperific was a literary term. It's an accurate term coined on the internet for what this 'armor' is. If you have a better way of classifying it, perhaps some literary term from the 16th century, then please, lets hear it.

EDIT: Whoa, that got real offensive, real fast. Sorry there, didn't mean to be an asshole.

I'm going to take a break. I don't know what the hell is going on with me.

I don't recall saying you ever did call it such. The person right above me did, however. That's all. Personally, I try to stay away from internet slang terms when writing because I don't want to cripple my vocabulary. Stripperiffic is a catchall term, but not everything that tvtropes applies the term to actually qualifies. I try to aim for more specific descriptions than using an easily misused internet word.

**POST REDACTED FOR THE REASON GIVEN BELOW**

**sigh**

This conversation is going in circles. I've said what I have to say.

Edit: Yeah, you know what, no. This conversation is a waste of my time.

To anyone else who wants to argue about what is or is not armor or powered armor - whatever. I no longer care.
I must say. I expected this thread to reach 5 pages no problem. I didn't quite expect it to get there through fervent discussion of the definitions of "armour", "powered armour", "powered exoskeleton" and the relevance/similarities of the three.

But well done on tagging out so that we could sink our teeth into the correct usage of the word "stripperiffic"

Why did you go back and edit all your posts?

I came here for power armor and you gave me magical girl dress. You're massively disappointing, OP. Massively disappointing. You are, however, free to like your skimpy magical girl dress as much as you like.

You're free to like whatever you want to like, doesn't make you juvenile for liking it, but the creators probably are. I mean, that's just lingerie. Pretty sure one of my ex's had a set that wasn't dissimilar to that, and I'm pretty sure if she wore that in a fight it would have just hindered her.

I'm playing final fantasy XIV right now, and one of the main npcs driving the story has the most outrageous camel toe I've ever seen. It's hard to take dialogue seriously when I'm not sure if I've stumbled into my adolescent sex dreams or listening to someone who apparently gets dressed in the dark.
Um what? Dude I've played clear to the end of FF14's story and not once did I notice camel toe on anybody. Then again that's not really something I look for; too busy reading the dialogue and what not for the story.
I'm glad you responded to the main thrust of my post. Regardless, the character is Yda and I'm not sure how you missed her. Maybe incredibly tight crotch "pants" would be a better word.

Agreed, I've seen some pretty fucked up 'armour' coming out of japan and western fantasy series (Hi chainmail bikini!) but that takes the cake.

Calling that 'armour' is an insult to protective gear, calling it a costume or 'magical girlwear' would be more accurate.

Don't get me wrong tits look nice and I get they want to sell a product but trying to tell me that it's as good as heavy plate has gotten old years ago.

I really don't like it and not because it's a skimpy outfit. It's just pretty uninteresting overall... I admit I think seeing a women in full armor swinging a sword around smacking people in the face with a shield is mother fucking kick ass, but bikini plate does tickle my fancy. The thing with most of the bikini plate is that it fits the character's body type and highlights their sexiness. This...ehh, it's just look like a piece of armor that somebody took apart. The design is a bit meh.

Oh I forgot to answer your question. Liking something like this isn't juvenile. I'm sure you know the difference between fantasies and reality and such and all that.

If stupid looking power armor was a sin to like, then I'd have quit liking Warhammer 40K long ago. Marines get brick shithouses, while Sisters of Battle get a space corset. Despite that, it still looks like armor. Must be the pauldrons. They make anything look like armor.
Fuck you, now you made me go back into wanting to play and read Warhammer 40k material, you should be more considerate of your fellow Escap-- I mean, Hail the Ultra Marines!!!

On topic: yeah, she's in a corset, BUT it does look like armor, as a matter of fact, it looks like a metal armor that looks like a corset... And she still looks damn brutish, which keeps in line with overall game design.

She's got her fusion back pack on. Either that corset is actually part of her powered armor, or her spine is not only irradiated but 4 inches shorter then it used to be.

Most fantasy armour is impractical as hell, I'm hardly going to fault you for liking this particular impractical armour.

I own an up-to-date complete set of Masamune Shirow's excellent Pieces and W-Tail Cat art books, so I'm with you 110%. But still, you're wasting your time. Appeasement only emboldens authoritarians.

You can like whatever you want but dont call this armour. this is a dress with some metal pieces on top of it.
Now actualy "Sexy power amour" as we saw before is actually unsafe and any decent smith would refuse to forge you one for a cosplay because apparently if you fall forward you impale yourself on it and die. and they dont want to be responsible.
