Sexy "Power Armor", am I 'juvenile' for liking it? (a response to recent Kill La Kill concepts)

Nothing is ever truly juvenile. The only thing I would point out that is it's best to have a consistent aesthetic in any one piece or album.

Don't be like TERA where women are in bikin armor but the men are in the sturdiest of sturdy plate armor.

It's your art do what you will but inconsistency is a turn off for a lot of people.

It looks dumb. I wouldn't even go as far as calling it sexy. It's just slutty and skanky. Typical fanboy pandering, nothing else.

This refers me back to "time and place". There is a time and place for everything in life, and to try to jam sexy into situations where it isn't sexy time takes me straight out of a game. Armor can look good while being armor, a bikini is not armor no matter what it is made out of.

I can't and won't take a character seriously as a person if they show up in a bikini to a fight. Wrong place, wrong time. All women can be sexy, but their is a time a place to show that side of them and a warzone ain't it.

Uagh, it's hideous! You can like what you like of course, but I don't understand what you see in this outfit X3. I also wouldn't call it armor, I don't see how it qualifies as that. I'm sure it qualifies technically, any clothing worn to defend against weapons does. It's just that it barely covers any part of the body that it would make sense to protect (or any part of the body at all actually, unless we consider the stockings armor... Do we? Are they armor?), instead it covers the parts that a bikini does. It's worn for modesty, not protection.

I'm not gona rage on it though, because I frankly don't care. Every time I go over to my roomie to check out the anime he's watching there are some barely clothed or at least big-chested girls with very short skirts showing off their amazing butt and desperate need to hump their awkward step-brother incapable of speech beyond "wuuh?", "uuh" and "aaah!" Yes that's far too general and I'm going to get some hate for saying it, but I really do get that impression X3. I'm not an anime fan, the only anime I ever watched and enjoyed was Black Lagoon. It still had lightly clothed big-breasted girls in it, but Revy is not atractive she's a psychotic mass murderer X3. I also enjoy Avatar: The Last Airbender, but some of my friend says it's not anime (looks like it is to me!).

I think I ended up straying a bit off topic... The point I was trying to make is that I don't mind those clothes, you can liek them if you want to, but I personally wouldn't call it armor. As a lesbian I can certainly apreciate some sexy though!

I'm super excited for this anime and despite the fact I don't have a problem with sexy armor this one just doesn't appeal to me. First of all I HATE high school anime's they're just so dull and repetitive, and as much as I want to like this anime I get the feeling this'll be just another Medaka Box :( design wise it was cool but the series over all was really boring and I'm afraid this will end up the same :(

also TTGL was not a parody of the mecha genre it was a bat shit insane copy of Getter Robo, Getter Robo Armageddon, Shin Getter Robo, New Getter Robo, and Getter Robo vs Neo Getter. So technically it was a tribute to Go Nagai ;)

Well, it's your preferred style. If this does not affect the way you treat other human beings, there is no problem. Interest in the sexualized designs doesn't make one juvenile.

But then again I can't stand them. But overly large breasts irritate me too, so w/e.

However. Don't you dare refer to that... that as "armor". Just don't.

It's a sex doll outfit. Acknowledge it for what it is.
If I were to strip buck naked and put on a traditional plate helmet, I would still be wearing armor, just not very much of it. Armor does not automatically mean "suit of armor."
For example, the traditional armor of the average roman soldier left both the arms and legs mostly uncovered, providing almost all of it's protection exclusively to the chest an abdomen. While we could not call this a full suit of armor it was certainly armor. And while we could not call the armor we're discussing a realistic suit of armor, we can call it highly sexualised fantasy armor.
Whether it is armor or not depends not upon our perception of what armor should be, but on the context provided by the source material.

Voulan said:
I'll second this. It's clearly meant to be pandering and invites us to look at her sexually, which is the exact opposite of what armour is supposed to do.
I dislike usage of the word "pandering" outside of a political context, seen as it basically means "catering to a particular audience" in a general sense.
Now there's no doubt that this particular set of armor is highly sexualised, but that is in no way "the opposite of what armor is supposed to do."
The primary purpose of armor is certainly to protect, but historically it was commonly used to promote a certain image of one's self. Now admittedly this image is usually one of a strong leader or royalty. But I don't think it's too much of leap for a creator of a fictional work to use armor for image promotion of a non-traditional image.

Voulan said:
Rarely do male armour sets give us the same impression. And since almost all female characters are dressed like this, it presents an ideological perspective of women being sex objects. Ideologies are invisible, hence many people responding "so what?" because it being harmful is not immediately apparent.
You're being overly general here.
Almost all female characters dress like this? really? Because I rarely see stuff like that in films, television or video games. Admittedly I don't know enough about anime to make a judgement for that particular medium, but the anime I have watched hasn't dabbled in anything so explicitly sexual without worthy justification.

Voulan said:
So, you're not bad in finding it attractive, but it might be beneficial to consider why women are almost exclusively dressed this way, while men aren't.
I don't know what you mean by "attractive" but the OP did explicitly state "I really liked it and not in the 'in my pants' kind of way."
And like I say above, I don't think women are (almost) exclusively dressed this way in any medium besides porn.

I known this is sort of off topic but could you please explain that a bit further to me? Because I hear this complaint a lot from mass effect and I've never really gotten what the problem was.

Dude. Just... just don't.

She's wearing a fetish outfit. That's what it is. That's what it was designed as.

Hell, you basically said it yourself:

And like I say above, I don't think women are (almost) exclusively dressed this way in any medium besides porn.
Now, what does that tell you about what we're looking at here, eh?

If stupid looking power armor was a sin to like, then I'd have quit liking Warhammer 40K long ago. Marines get brick shithouses, while Sisters of Battle get a space corset. Despite that, it still looks like armor. Must be the pauldrons. They make anything look like armor.
To be fair, Space Marine armor looks like that because that is how the Space Marines looks under that armor. Space Marines are built like insane versions of Dom and Marcus from Gears of War (or are Dom and Marcus built like slightly more sane versions of Space Marines?).

Sisters of Battle actually look like and are built like somewhat regular humans under that armor as such they look more "normal".

People think that because most of the entertainers you see in the clubs are Asari that the Asari culture is biased towards that.

They kind of ignore that there are quite a few human entertainers too, and that the other species have reasons for not being there.

Slut armor tee hee.

Everyones a little immature, as long as your immaturity doesn't impact your real life in any negative way your good to go. For instance I still laugh at fart jokes, not even good ones. Does it prevent me from holding down a job, relationship, ect ect? No, if you like slut armor(ha) then whateves, as long as you don't marry one of those weird anima pillows... Or even if you do, if your not hurting anyone and it makes you happy who gives a fart what people think?

That'd be because it's not the same armour, it's power armour in that it uses fiber bundle muscles to move ceramite plate but it's not the same type of armour. If you compare it to the power armour inquisitors of both sexes wear it's damn near the same as that. The only people that can wear Astartes plate are the various groups of enhanced soldiers.

As a separate note though the proportions on the Sororitas armour are similar to older versions of the Astartes models.

Ha, and while I understand this, why don't more Male characters run around in "armor" that barely covers anything?
Loads do actually, you've probably just not noticed but in fantasy and sci fi art there's normally a damn huge chunk of male characters that are essentially not wearing anything. For example a lot of people rag on the older Frazetta style art for having bikinis everywhere but genuinely overlook the fact that the guy's generally in knee boots, a loin cloth and maybe a bandolier.

As far as female armour goes, the Sisters of Battle do pretty well, they're pretty much in third place behind Femshep in her default armour and Samus. Yeah it's a corset, but at least the rest of her is properly armoured.
The other thing to note is that that's just artwork, most of the actual models have a solid curaiss with a piping seam up the middle that mimics a corset seam but actually isn't. Also there's plate under the cloth elements, the cloth covers the armour instead of replacing it. Couple that with the helms on some of their regular Sisters and most of the Retributors and there's a good chunk of their army that is armoured head to toe.

Also their helmets are awesome.
